It seems the Sawx have returned to the type of futility which marked much of their 80+ year run w/o a WS championship. SNAFU? Over/under 5 years till the next Sawx championship. UNDER.

Sox gave up a "Little League Home Run" yesterday. (the batter and runner scored after a ground ball single and a couple of bad throws).
Can't remember the last time that happened; only thing I recall on the same level of embarrassment was a game in the late 90s where some guy got on first and proceeded to steal second, third and home.

Truly embarrassing - letting a guy do it on the same play.

The third baseman leaves his area to wander pointlessly over towards second base - forcing the catcher to race down to third, leaving the plate exposed. Where the hell is the pitcher? There's something useful you can do on every play defensively, even when the action at the moment is far away. Exhibit A - The Flip

The third baseman covers third base on any play, anywhere on the field, unless he's fielding the ball to throw to first base, or fielding a pop-up.
Outfielders always back up a base.
I can still hear my dad repeating from Little League...

Learned the same thing when I was a young little leaguer and before that from my father. When you are on the field, baseball is not a spectator sport.

Granted....I should have been more specific....I was referring to the contract extension they signed him to in 2020.......And, while he was a nice piece on the 2018 team, he was at most the #3 starter ( coin flip with Eduardo Rodriguez ) behind Porcello and Price....He threw 5 innings in the World Series, although he closed it out in a 5-1 game. ....Eovaldi played a much larger role He barely saw the field after he signed that extension....And, the Sox are still paying the majority of his 2024 salary

Crazier than a bedbug. When he was with the Chisox, the White Sox brass thought it would be a good idea for the team to sport the late ‘70s unis (shirts with the black collar and shorts…think Harold Baines and Chet Lemon) for a game vs. the Tigers. Apparently Sale was not fond of the look and took a pair of scissors and cut up his uni and those of all of his teammates and the team had to wear the mid-80s Greg Luzinski version with SOX in a colored band across the chest. Needless to say, the White Sox brass was not impressed and suspended him.

I have often wondered if the Sox did that to themselves by using Sale as a closer and a starter in the post season because Kimbrel was not reliable down the stretch. That being said, Sale was the #1 starter and best pitcher on the team that year. In my opinion, no way was he a coin flip #3 or #4., That was from memory. I looked up some stats to make sure my memory wasn't getting fuzzy Sale 2.11 ERA Price 3.58 ERA Porcello 4.28 ERA Porcello and Price both had more starts and wins than Sale (although Sale had a better win percentage) but it's hard to rank a starting pitcher behind another starter who's ERA is double his

Have to agree to disagree....a 6 inning pitcher isn't a #1......This does not remind of Koufax/Drysdale, Marichal, Gibson or Clemens........I know, the game has "changed " His numbers don't remind me of Kershaw or Cole in the current era, either

Few pitchers in the entire game average over 7 innings per start. If you have even a single one on your team, it's unusual in the modern game. However, every starting pitcher accrues runs to build an ERA, and one whose ERA hovers around 2 is going to be the best starter on your team.

Sale ranked 3rd among AL pitchers in WAR in 2017, and 2nd in 2018. He finished 2nd in ERA in 2017, and had he pitched just four more innings in 2018, would have had the innings required to have finished 2nd in ERA. He was an elite starter both seasons - All-Star selection and top four in the Cy Young vote.
He's been a disaster since, but that's how he "earned" the last contract. I'm skeptical about Grissom, but the Sox are still better off shedding several million dollars from the payroll. Good luck to all.
