Carmody was also dealing with facilities that were not up to par. Difficult to recruit in the BIG 10 against the Michigans and others. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they're the same facilities that Collins has at his disposal. And I assume facilities around the league are farther along now compared to NW than when Carmnody was starting out there.

If you are going to try and make a joke about Carmody's poor defense (Carmnody...funny, but the defense has actually been pretty good), at least understand the difference between further and farther.

Northwestern beat Indiana today to improve to 18-4 overall and 7-2 in the Big 10, placing them in 3rd place, just one game behind Maryland and Wisconsin.

Our board likes to see academic schools succeed. Northwestern is one of those. Not quite a fit here but another school we follow had a guy start 9-9 from 3 and still lose. Yourrrrrrr bc eagles!

The Wildcats recently beat Ohio State in Columbus for the first time since the 1970s and the current six-game Big Ten winning streak is the longest since the 1932-33 season. The school administration's commitment to winning is paying off.

Wow, it appears that things improved after 13 years of banging their head against the wall with the same system that wasn't getting them over the hump. Interesting.

I know. Just like HC banging it's head against the wall for the six seasons prior to last year with two incompetent coaches, before righting the ship with a competent coach and PL title in his first year. Interesting...

i couldn't possibly care less about the angle our good friends caro and 70 are putting forward by posting and updating this thread on a holy cross message board. with the complete disregard for their nonsense in mind, i'm personally rooting for northwestern because i respect the academic requirements that they share... especially in a conference where the playing field is not at all level. it would be cool to see them make the big dance - as carmody did in his first year at holy cross and multiple times at princeton - after so many decades and different coaches not being able to do so at northwestern. plus, northwestern actually making the dance for once adds more drama to the ongoing subplot of who is going to ultimately get the duke job... wojo or collins!

One thing that worked out in NU's favor is that the Big 10's expansions only included one decent basketball school, Maryland. Penn State, Nebraska and Rutgers aren't exactly power conference level when it comes to basketball.
Compare that to the ACC's list of schools: Louisville, Syracuse, Miami, VT, Notre Dame, Pitt and BC.

True, but Penn State and Rutgers are both in the Big Ten eastern division, meaning NU only plays them once. They also have to play traditionally strong teams like Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State once (eastern division), and Wisconsin, Indiana, Purdue, and Wisconsin (western division) twice.

Northwestern held #7 Wisconsin to 38% shooting and beat them in the Kohl Center, an extremely difficult place to play (I believe Wisconsin wins ~90%+ of its games there). I think it's NW's first win in that building.
Very impressive.
