If you are a big fan of tennis (like me) and you have subscribed to ESPN+, you can watch all the doubles matches. Upcoming: women's semis (Brady) and finals; men's finals (Ram) and mixed finals (Pegula)

Play between Coco Gauff and Karolína Muchová at the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York was stopped Thursday after an environmental protester "glued his feet to the cement floor," an announcer and a tournament official said.
The match between Gauff, of the U.S., and Muchová, of Czechia, was delayed for 49 minutes, the U.S. Tennis Association said. Gauff would go on to win and seal a place in the final on home soil, though fellow American Madison Keys later lost her semifinal....
Thursday's disruption — claimed by the group Extinction Rebellion — follows several protests by environmental activists from other groups, including one that recently blocked the route to the Burning Man festival in Nevada and others that have targeted famed works of art.

Can we assume that crazed person was released last evening and will get slap-on-the-wrist from a judge ? Gauff said in her post match interview that she was expecting something like this because the same disruption happened at this year's Australian Open and French Open. She's a very mature young lady and did not let the delay effect her tennis - she's my choice to win it all on Saturday

These people who glue body parts to inanimate objects should have their heads examined.

I wonder if any protesters have been left there for a few days by the authorities with a breezy message, "Stick around for awhile"

Sorry, I redeemed S&H green stamps to get my last tennis racket. I don't keep up with the sport like I should. I know you are still playing which I admire.

19 yr. old Coco Gauff won. She was terrific. Are we witnessing the birth of a new American tennis superstar?

Some people here want to focus on everything but the tennis. I’m not a tennis fan but I watched enough in the last week to be thrilled that we have a young American champion to be very excited about both as a tennis player and a role model. As for the non-tennis, we really do need to find better ways to keep the focus on Coco and others like her at a tennis match rather than the 17-time arrestee who glues himself to the concrete under his seat during said match. The only thing I have come up with so far to disincentivize the privileged protestor who has the time, financial freedom and employment freedom to get arrested over and over and over is as follows. Rather than wasting perfectly good acetone to dissolve the glue, just cut a 2’ x 2’ piece of concrete out of the stadium to include the person’s feet. Carry the person attached to said block of concrete out of the stadium for all to see, drive said person (in a large gas-guzzling police vehicle) and their new personal pedestal to a place of the police’s choosing and leave him there. I suspect the protestors would quickly stop gluing themselves to stadia or busy streets.

Novak Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to win another men's open title. He was particularly gracious (and appropriately humorous) in his acceptance speech and the crowd frequently clapped in approval. A very popular and deserving champion.
As far as the self-absorbed climate/whatever protestors go, I would be much more impressed if they glued their faces to the stadium floor.

Djokovic is a great player, but having watched him mock fans and fellow players over the years, such as Ben Shelton in the semis, shows me he is far from gracious. Also during Covid he lied about being allowed to play in the Australian Open before being caught and denied the chance to perform. On the Tennis Channel during a pre Open tourney, announcer and former great Jim Currier detailed a Djokovic practice he witnessed. Currier spoke of Djokovic’s dictatorial behavior toward the 6 persons attending him,. When one of these persons, the hitter he was practicing with, did not place the ball exactly where Djokovic wanted it, Djokovic screamed at him. Even having watched him for years, Currier was surprised and dismayed. Coco is a joy as a player and a public person.

Polarization. It is so interesting that we allow our divergent political views to seep into everything. Those in one camp obsess over a side bar protest from someone from the left. And they write little about our new American champion, 19 year old Coco Gauff. And, some also wax poetic not merely about the play but the "gracious" behavior of a very controversial heretofore "ungracious" Djokovic. One poster wrote one short sentence about Djokovic's victory and spent the rest of the post delving into other areas - all to "own" a certain subset of the board. We all know what is going on. Nobody is fooling anybody. It is silly. The sub rosa positional comments serve no purpose. Yet it continues. Why not stick to tennis & the surrounding hoopla? The great play of the champions to the delight of the audience deserved more celebration.

On this issue, it seems like many of Djokovic's peers on the tour share the sentiment that Shelton is a show-boater. As a young and new guy on the tour, he hasn't earned the right to pull some shenanigans. Shelton, to his credit, said in the press conference: "I think if you win the match, you deserve to do whatever you want." I'm sure Tiafoe, who Shelton beat, along with others on the tour, thought it was in poor taste when Shelton "hung up the phone" on Tiafoe.

Did you watch the straight set match, particularly gracious (and appropriately humorous) trophy acceptance, and very positive crowd reaction at the US Open yesterday?

This discussion about Djokovic is childish. As they say on Shark Tank, "I'm out."
