OK, the Bison jusr fell out of the top 100 fcs teams - they are now #105. Massey makes HC the clear favorite by 25 points (42-17) with a 96% chance to win. If we allow Bucknell to score 17, that will not be a good sign for our defense. I also look for HC to score more than 42. But that is just me. This week we will learn what the players and coaches learned on Saturday and how they will improve our play the rest of the way. PS: Please don't look forward to Lafayette

Cumberland vs Georgia Tech. Just kidding. Actually to me, the margin of victory should be higher than Laffy vs Bucknell, a failure if it is not.

People on any given Saturday message board saying Lafayette is the favorite. I would print that out and put it on the wall in the locker room.
You win 4 PL titles in a row and lose one game to Harvard its the end of the world.
Remember when our last PL loss was? I can't?

Bucknell managed to score 22 points on Laffy with 282 through the air (no rushing to speak of but we'll worry about that before the Lafayette game). I don't think Bucknell can run on us. Over 200 in the air for Laffy vs Bucknell and a ton of rushing yards. Should be a fun day if we get up and are prepared to bury the Bison.

The only thing that needs to be posted on a bulletin board is Bucknell’s misguided policy from the “championship game” in the spring of 2021. From the Worcester Telegram:
“Spectator policies for this spring’s Patriot League regular-season and championship games are determined by the host institution’s policies.
“Bucknell allows up to four family members of its players and coaches, as well as Bucknell students, staff and faculty who are participating in on-campus COVID-19 testing to attend outdoor athletic events on campus, with up to 20 percent of a venue’s maximum occupancy permitted.
“Visiting team spectators and general fans are not allowed access to facilities or events, so Holy Cross supporters will have to watch the game on CBS Sports Network.
“We’re not in the business of trying to tell people how to run their protocols,” Chesney said. “It’s not up to us. We’re just excited to have this opportunity to play. Obviously, they’ll have their fans and we won’t, but that makes it even more what we’ve been talking about this whole time and it’s really going to allow us to figure out if what we said, ‘All we need is us,’ we’re going to find out if that holds true or not.
“It would be nice and we would love to have the parents (of our players) there,” Chesney said, “and if this is their son’s last game I think it would only be fair, but it’s not my decision and I think we’ll just deal with what we have to deal with when we get there.”

Nice to be reminded of that stupid move by Bucknell (even if it was "well intended")

I won't "mask" my feelings about the Bison.🙂 A total ban on spectators or only allowing immediate family of both teams would be good faith public health measures. Only allowing home team fans goes to character and sportsmanship.

I heard that "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions." I don't remember the Big East ever being connected to it.

This is going to be UGLY.....particularly with an "off week" the following week. Blow em out for 3 quarters, let the reserves mop up.

"describe the truth as we see fit"? That sounds like a good definition of fiction.

Yesterday was our Merrimack’21 moment. It’s unfortunate that we dropped one into the punch bowl, but I’m sure HCBC and staff will use this as a reminder to the squad that we can’t just show up.
I remain confident that we’ll be getting “one for the thumb”, and equally confident that we’ll be fully-ready for every game the rest of the way.
Let’s go undefeated this week.

I’m still miffed about the 2021 Spring game, but I also blame the Patriot League. It was the only game I missed in 3 seasons (2019-2021).
We finished the regular season 2-0, should have been 3-0, but Colgate cancelled on us.
Bucknell finished the regular season 2-1 and they lost to Fordham who we beat. Clearly we should have hosted the Championship game and per our policy would have allowed the Bucknell parents to attend.
No one shows up to their games, in 2021 they announced an attendance of 864 for our game, that was a stretch.

Definitely saved a ton of lives by permitting a few hundred additional fans to sit in their open air stadium that day.

Very, very early forecast for Lewisburg shows some rain throughout the afternoon. Interesting to see if it gets our ground game going and if it limits Nick Semptimphelter (who actually had a halfway decent game against Laffy). I'm sure Sluka will be ready to battle. Have to keep an eye on the forecast. Watching the morning news, I noticed the swatch of green moving across PA on Saturday and thought of our game.

I think the other Bucknell QB (Rucker) played most of the game and had a decent stat line (28/44 282 1/1 but was sacked 7 times). Bucknell rushed for a -24 net total yards (!!) versus Lafayette. That's interesting. Lafayette rushed for 316 net total yards.

Great way to start the week--complaining about the Big East decision and a football game HC won in 2021. See the quote from BC in hartattack's post. It is a good thing he coaches the team and not anyone here.

Good quote from Ches on their mindset this week: "Every single Sunday when we walk in that team meeting, we say ‘it doesn’t matter, get better,’ regardless of what you just went through. It doesn’t matter. Get better,” he said. “We say that on wins, we say that on losses, honestly. If you win, you’ve got to detach the emotion from the motion as quickly as possible and get on what did you do poorly and what is it that teams are going to attack? Don’t worry about what you did well. We all know what you did well. What did you do poorly? After a loss, it’s no different. There’s games we win that we have a lot of bad plays in. Then, there’s games you lose that you have bad plays in and I think that – again – you have to detach the emotion from the motion." nefootballjournal.com/in-unfamiliar-territory-holy-cross-looking-to-bounce-back-after-surprisingly-ugly-loss/

I was expecting to see the multi-syllable QB from previous years starting and either getting injured or pulled in favor of the seemingly more proficient Rucker. Hope we have Haskins back this week and Jarmo as soon as he can to help the young guys in our secondary.

Lafayette beat Bucknell last year 24-14. This year, 56-22. A few options: 1.Bucknell's offense (mostly through the air) is a tad better. 2. Lafayette's offense is better 3. Bucknell's defense is just as bad 4. Lafayette's defense is legit but marginally worse than last year without Hamm.
Most likely a combination of all 4, but it does appear Bucknell's passing game with Rucker is better and Lafayette's offense is a little better.

Keep asking them why they bother with football. They have been losing since 1996. I would not want to be a Bucknell player, fan, family member, alum, employee or neighbor this weekend. HC will focus on the fundamentals for the full 60 minutes — no doubt about that. The Bison know what is coming and there is nothing they can or will do to stop it. Will be fun witnessing HC reset and dominate. GoCrossGo

Not meant to be so much anti Bucknell but rather pro reality of the situation. Any HC opponent would confront a tall challenge this week — simply the wrong time, wrong circumstances to be facing a team that came within a whisker of beating BC and uncharacteristically let one get away vs Harvard. Fully expect HC to play a complete game — and that will be impressive to see. With last year’s game fresh in memory — there can’t be much optimism in Lewisburg.
Besides — Bucknell helped break in Paulson for us — who isn’t thankful to that institution for that?
