This may be getting old, but the weather for Saturday in Lewisburg is predicted to be showers and cool (mid50s) with a slight wind (4 mph). Not great, but not the worst.

Got some things to work out this week; important one w/regard to improving areas that need improvement. Just winning isn't enough; and I don't necessarily mean what the final score is.

Anyone find game notes for HC yet? Earlier in the season they were released Wednesdays, then Thursdays! Bucknell had theirs up yesterday. I have a great respect for our SID and the work Sarah and Charles do, so I don't want to come off as critical. Perhaps they were burnt out from all the publicity surrounding the PP game.
Watched the replay (in spurts) of the Laffy-Bucknell game and Rucker is a legit passer, but I think he is raw and the talent of the line, tight ends, and supporting cast are a level below that of HC. They do have a shifty and speedy WR Eric Weatherly #1 who reminds me of former Harvard slot guy Kym Wimberly who also wore #1. He spent his freshman year as a wr/rb at Duke. The Bucknell defense does not appear to have improved.

Dave Cecchini, their head-coach, is in his tenth season leading a D-1 program (Valpo - 5 yrs, Bucknell - 5 yrs.), and has ONE winning season - 6-5 with Valpo in 2017. Compare that to HCBC, who, now in his 14th year (5+ in D-1) leading a program, has had ONE losing season.

Valpo is a tough place to win with three winning seasons this century

Game Alert Warning….. 🤣
From the game notes, Doug Birdsong will be the announcer. Does he have a football version of “Bingo”? 🤣
While his in game commentary is definitely over the top for basketball, I hope he tones it down a notch for football.
On several occasions I have talked to Doug after games at the Hart. He really is very friendly on a personal basis.

In fact, his predecessor (Dale Carlson) was 3-40 over four seasons. All of those wins came against Campbell, who freshly restarted their football program in 2009. I think most thought Cecchini actually did a pretty good job at Valpo.

The standard is probably Tim Murphy, who has been at Harvard since 1994 and has had only one losing season this century! And in the BC era he's 4-1 against us. He may not have our number but he's only a couple of digits shy.

I think it’s fair to say Murphy has Chesney’s number.

Out of curiosity...any speculation as to why we saw so many blocked punts and kicks last year and haven't seen quite as many this year? Are we playing fewer defensive starters on special teams? Talk about points and field position advantage.
I wouldn't mind seeing Joe P and Sluka out at the same time in a game against Laffy, Fordham, or Army to really confuse a defense. There's a lot you can run...RPO, PA, etc. Would I like to see it every down, no of course not, but I wouldn't mind seeing it for a series particularly against a tough Laffy defense.

One possibility is that we are forcing fewer punts this year. Opponents are punting on average 3.2 times per game, last year it was 4.2. Also, I think Chesney picks his spots when looking to block a point. It's very situational. Sometimes we might set up for a return, we might be in "punt safe", etc.

The additional five minutes on that drive was a killer.

Nice article. Did I miss the grandfather’s name? I’d like to check into his Negro Leagues Baseball career.

What's some of the best out of conference game Murphy's powerful Harvard teams have played? We knowing you are trying to keep Ivy League football relevant. The sad thing is Patriot League titles are more important because they come with an automatic bid to the playoffs!
