Holy Cross has a top notch offense, but their defense has a lot left to be desired. Plus, they have way too many penalties. I hope I am wrong, but I do not see Holy Cross winning the Patriot League title. Right now, I see them losing to Lafayette, and even Fordham. In addition, Lehigh's offense is starting to gel, so they can be a formidable foe. I see us as VERY slight favorites against Lafayette at home. If game were in Easton, IMO the Leopards would be the favorites. They held Princeton to 3 rushing yards yesterday. Unless we can't find a way to stop Fordham (very blanaced attack) for a full four quarters or turn the ball over multiple times, I think we handle the Rams again. I want to see Fuller have a Fenerty type of game in the Bronx. They shouldn't be able to stop our ground game. Lehigh should be a fairly easy win if we show up to play. Another factor: Holy Cross has a bye week to prep for Lafayette. Fordham has a bye week to prep for Holy Cross. Guessing HC -10 against Lafayette.

Put 8 guys in the box to stop Fuller and we can expose them over the top. Have to check the stats and see how Lehigh and Gtown attacked the Fordham D. On the other side, Montes is good but is not great. I don't know about his ground game.

Anyone find the post game press conference posted? Sometimes it is on YouTube, sometimes on Twitter, and sometimes it is only posted by JT or Kevin Stone.

That looks more like a porous Fordham defense than a gelling Lehigh offense to me. Loss at Villanova 10 Win at Merrimack 14 Loss home Cornell 20 Loss at Dartmouth 17 Loss at Monmouth 7 Loss at Fordham 35 Interesting scheduling note: Lehigh has only played 1 home game at this point in the season.

I watched most of the Lehigh - Fordham 4th quarter yesterday and could not believe this decision by Cahill --
Lehigh was winning 35-32 and driving in Fordham's end late in the 4th quarter. They had it at 4th and 1 at Fordham's 38 yard line with 5:30 remaining. Picking up a first down here would have gone a long, long way to putting the game away.
Instead, Cahill elected to punt the ball. Ball goes in the end zone for a touchback. Lehigh gains a net 18 yards.
So incredibly foolish. When on the road as a significant underdog, a chance to almost seal the game with one play is a no-brainer.
He played not to lose, and they lost.

NFL teams don't even punt in those situations anymore. Mind boggling incompetence!

HOLY CROSS 55, BUCKNELL 27 Jordan Fuller runs for four touchdowns, Holy Cross football bounces back with win over Bucknell By Mike Puzzanghera Globe Correspondent,Updated October 7, 2023, 6:57 p.m.
Behind a dominant performance from junior running back Jordan Fuller, Holy Cross bounced back from a loss to Harvard a week earlier with a 55-27 win over Bucknell at Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon in Lewisburg, Pa.
Fuller rumbled for 147 yards and four touchdowns (his second four-touchdown game of the season), quarterback Matthew Sluka added 122 rushing yards, and the Crusaders (4-2, 2-0 Patriot) amassed 574 yards of offense.
“I think we’ve got four or five Sunday players on our offensive line,” Fuller said. “They wear guys down throughout the game, and then holes start opening up because it’s hard to hang with them for that long.”

The Bison (1-4, 0-2) stayed within striking distance through most of the afternoon — a touchdown pass to Eric Weatherly with four minutes left in the third quarter cut the deficit to 14 — but the Crusaders, ranked No. 12 in the FCS coaches poll, got a goal-line interception from senior cornerback Terrence Spence late in the third.
Fuller followed that with a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter — including a 70-yard score that served as the dagger. After fifth-year linebacker Jacob Dobbs forced a fumble from Bucknell quarterback Ralph Rucker that the Crusaders recovered, Fuller rushed straight up the gut on the second play of the drive and went untouched into the end zone.

Sluka finished with 258 yards and a pair of scores through the air — including one to senior Jalen Coker (96 yards on three catches), who added to his program record with his 25th career touchdown grab, a 55-yard connection late in the first quarter.
“Offensively, the O-line did great,” Holy Cross coach Bob Chesney said. “Matt had a good day, Jalen had a good day, our run game was really good … a road conference win is something we’ll take every day of the week.”

It was a bounce-back performance from Sluka, who committed four turnovers against Harvard. But he shrunk that number to zero on Saturday, completing 19 of 28 passes, taking care of the ball, and managing the game effectively late.
“The team, we definitely fought way harder this week,” Sluka said. “Last week hurt, emotionally, but we just wanted to get back out here and prove everybody wrong again.”
The Crusaders host Lafayette (5-1, 1-0) Oct. 21 at Fitton Field.

I would certainly be good with a two touchdown win - or even a one point win right now. I hope all of our injured Crusaders can get better in the next two weeks.

I am stubborn enough that I went back and viewed that penalty agsainst Sluka several times. Although the announcers said Sluka clearly "gave himself up," the fact is HE DID NOT. He did NOT slide. He dove for the first down, extending his arm out. Tha announcers called it a first down and then reversed themselves to support the terrible spot by the refs. Of course, whatever Matt said, should not have been said. He has to keep his head at such times. Youth is not part of that and should no longer be a reason for so many penalties against HC.
PS: I hope we get some of our walking wounded back for Lafayette, and that we have not lost Hsaskins for gthe season. Those critches made me very nervous.

That penalty could have been a killer. If there was no penalty, you have to think Chesney goes for it; it's probably a third of the distance that he "arrogantly" (one poster's words, not mine) tried to get a few minutes later. The play call that failed was more in order for the shorter distance, IMHO.

Watching the game I saw it the same way. That said, I’m not the least bit surprised that the clown doing PBP got it wrong. He should work a few years of high-school games to hone what little broadcasting talent he MIGHT have.

Their only hope to win is to outscore you in a shootout. And to beat US in a shootout, they're going to need to get in the endzone almost every possession OR win the turnover battle bigly. Because, Fordham isn't stopping us at the point of attack. Anyway, IMO we have a considerably tougher matchup in 2 weeks.
