Everyone is talking about the Lafayette defense, but I don’t see any Leopard names on this list. Here is my take on Lafayette starting with Defense: - They play VERY good team Defense. I have watched several of their games and they play a Base 4-3 with the 3 LB'ers who are a 4th Year Senior Fortney, 5th Year Olivas and a 6th Year Shaeffer. That is a ton of experience in the middle of your defense. They are aggressive in bringing pressure and move their defense pre and post snap. From my eye they want you off balance as an Offense and move their defense in order to create confusion and TFL opportunities. They are stout upfront and experienced on the back end. This is a very good defensive team.
- Offensively I see them playing to their Defense. They use 12 personnel regularly and attack on the perimeter with quick throws. The TE Gilbert is a big target especially in the middle of the field. They used him on a wheel for the TD in the Princeton Game. The RB Curtis is a very good back with good vision and speed. Their QB moves quite a bit in the pocket and is a threat to run but not in the mold of DiPalma at Harvard more like The Yale and Merrimack QB's. He has protected the ball well and for the most part has had the luxury of playing with the lead!
- They are 5-1 for a reason and that is by playing Good Defense, running the ball and protecting the ball. They have created 7 TO's while only losing 5.
This is a very Good Football Team we will Face next Saturday. They fought toe to toe with us last year. The Game is at Fitton on Family weekend with Parking having already sold out. I imagine this will be a great atmosphere for a big leg up in the conference race. I know our Boys will be ready! We need our fans and supporters to be at their best as well.
Go Saders!

Agree 100%. Have to try and play from the lead and perhaps force them out of their gameplan of quick hitters and runs. I hope everyone comes out for this one like the Fordham game last year. We need the fan support in full force!

2nd year in a row where the biggest league game of the season, no.1 vs. no.2 is at Fitton Georgetown, who might be 2-0 after this weekend should they beat Lehigh, would like a word. A win at Goodman would be unprecedented -- Lehigh has never lost to Georgetown at home in the modern era. In fact, since 2001, they are 20-1 against Georgetown.

It feels like every game is a playoff game from this point forward.

As Fordham learned with Georgetown, have to get up for every game, even if you "think" you have an edge in talent and skill. On paper we should win every game going forward, perhaps even Army. Then again, that's what I thought about Harvard. I am sure the coaching staff will ensure that doesn't happen again both mentally and physically. Going 1-0 each week! I like the playoff game mentality (and I really would like some home games in the playoffs and avoid a trip to the Big Sky country until later!

Honestly I know how lucky we all feel with the coaches and players on the current and previous rosters, and sometimes we forget just how fortunate we are, and we, not the team, suffer from eating the poison cheese I mentioned in an earlier post.
Do your best to reach out and say thank you, and if you can help support the effort with your time or any level of financial support that would be great. Being totally transparent, other than my 50th I don't contribute to the general fund because I disagree with some of the philosophical approaches in the classroom, and lack of basic Catholic tradition, but I will do all I can to financially support the athletic programs. I just wish all former players that wore a purple uniform would do the same. At best I was a poor to maybe average college athlete, but the coaches( like Dennis Golden) and teammates changed my life.

Outstanding to see a Crusader player recognized for this prestigious honor two years in a row. Doubt this would have happened without the return of scholarships.

Player Summary: 5-year letterman, 5-year starter who has played in 42 career games and has 42 starts under his belt. Has an athletically thick build of a body. Has good mental processing, communicates and adjusts defensive front at pre-snap, uses good eye discipline when focusing and reading his gap assignments. Displays good play strength, shows willingness to stick nose into run lanes, maintains balance, attacks gap assignment to assist in constricting running lanes to stop runners at LOS. Moves well along the LOS when in traffic, uses hands, extends arms to create space between blocker when met at second level, while continuing to move feet once engaged at POA. Has a good motor when pursuing runners, sifts through traffic, avoids blockers to run play down. Displays solid play speed, keeps eyes in the backfield when blitzing from LB depth, putting stress on the LOS, while forcing QB to exit the pocket. Does a good job getting depth in coverage, uses good inside leverage forcing TE to be rerouted. Does not do a good job disengaging OL, does not initiate contact, gets pushed out of position at point of impact due to marginal pad level. Not much of an impact vs pulling guards when met at the second level, gets washed out the play when coming down hill vs combo blocks. Does make wrong gap reads at times, which leads to losing sight of runners due to getting lost in traffic. Does not do well vs agile, speedy RBs in open space, lacks the speed to close distance once RBs get to the outside.
Scheme Fit: 4-3 or 4-2-5 defense, mainly in run support, spying QBs with occasional coverage responsibility.
Fanfield.io Power Statement: An athletically stout run stopping linebacker who can constrict run lanes coupled with good play strength, while putting stress on the OL at POA.
