Lost faith in our coach already? Paulson and his recruits will have the team playing better over the next 2 or 3 years. At least that is what I choose to believe. I like it better than a slogan of "We are the worst."

Over the next five years, Dartmouth has games scheduled with UNH (x3), Army, Fordham (x2), and Towson If Dartmouth's playing Fordham twice in the next five years, we should be pushing big time for a revival of the series. I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't schedule us if we show enough interest. It's probably mostly compatible schedule openings that ruled but Fordham gets the Big Green a game in New York City to exploit as broadly as they want to across departments like Development and Alumni relations. Now I remember they play Columbia so maybe it was almost completely compatible schedule openings and you have a good suggestion for HC to show interest for future years.

The good news is I think the concept of HC going D-3 is a red herring. I can't imagine any trustee not coming to the realization that being one of the few D-1 national liberal arts schools is our "in" to attract students we otherwise wouldn't and we don't have to gerrymander our way into a higher division while having lower division facilities and heritage (no offense Stonehill and welcome to D-1🙂) because we have always been D-1, have sunk money in D-1 facilities, are in a league with supportive compatriots, and do not want the embarrassing retreat to D-3 that UHartford experienced. Exactly why I suggested in an earlier post that this upcoming decision is a way to test if we are " all-in " on being a solid " Villanova-esque " 1-AA/Mid-major, or something less than that, which, it can be argued, is where we are now..........We have sunk money into it, but with exception of FB, WBB and Hockey, we are not seeing a 1-AA product. That's why its crucial to hit this hire exactly right, and be prepared to spend the money to do it. I don't think there's a lot of debate that athletic success does fuel the abillity " to attract students we otherwise wouldn't ". It would ideal to get MBB back to level of the Potter/Vicens/Perry and Willard years and keep FB exactly where it is........I think that would enhance the entire Holy Cross profile

I couldn't agree more. I don't see HC leaving the PL as disappointing as it's been from a purely athletic standpoint, so adding schools that are more competitive athletically and would raise the bar of the PL, would be my answer. Obviously convincing them to come onboard might be an issue. Do we really need the AI for example. I don't think HC admitting students who clearly didn't belong before the advent of the PL, was ever an issue and I am very confident it wouldn't become one without the AI. This business of "we have no place to hide student athletes" is hogwash. When was HC ever in that business? Also, if we are going to be judged by the company we keep, how should we feel about being in a basketball conference that in some rating services, is dead last as of today. Numero 32. How does that square with trying to excel in everything we do? The inconvenient truth is if HC MBB leaves the PL the league would zoom up to #29-30 or so. I can imagine a couple of other leagues considering taking us but none that would waive the entrance fee or waiting period for the auto-bid and those leagues wouldn't necessarily give HC a prestige or significant competitive boost over the PL. And we'd go from a founding partner to a carpet bagger.🤕 HC has been a football member of the PL for almost 40 years and an all-sports member for close to 35. To call HC a carpet bagger viv-a-vis the PL makes no sense.

The PVP era ain't never happening again. You weren't getting into the Hart Center without a season ticket. Back to back Top Twenty appearances in SI's preason college hoops edition. An appearance, albeit briefly, in the AP Top Ten. National freshman of the year. Center stage at MSG and Boston Garden. Eastern Basketball's Coach of the Year. Very heady times that will not be seen again.

I believe longsuffering was saying HC would be seen as a carpetbagger if we left the PL and joined some other league. That is where we would be a carpetbagger, not in the PL where, as you said, HC is a founding member. .

I mean if we left the PL to go to a new league we would give up that forty years of continuity and the status as a charter member and be a "carpet bagger," which is perhaps an unnecessary loaded term, in a new league and have to accept the initiation process which may include an entrance fee and a wait to attain eligibility for that league's auto-bids.

The Dartmouth-HC game was always big in our home as my Dad did his medical residency at the Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover. He became a big Dartmouth fan (except when we played them of course). I don't remember it but lived there for the first couple years of my life and we often returned for HC games played there as kids. It's such a great, Fall football setting....I too hope the series is renewed at some point. Drove up one year when the foliage was peaking and stopped for dinner at the New London Inn on the way home. Delightful. Since OOC games are played early it's a great time of year to play a team from Northern New England. Last game I saw there was part of a long weekend in 2004. Included the most famous stolen base in Red Sox history. So, I have fond memories of the place , especially after the B&B owner was crowing at breakfast that day about the Yankee rout the night before.

Dartmouth’s 2024 schedule takes a hit because of Army joining the AAC. They had a game at AWP three years ago but it was postponed and rescheduled for Sep 28 - last week Army cancelled the game and Dartmouth imme scheduled Merrimack to replace them and had to agree to play the game in North Andover

At one point, BC was scheduled to host Ohio State on 9/2/2024. That home and home got pushed back a while ago so don’t know if that’s the reason they still have an opening.

If HC wanted to tweak their ‘24 schedule to include a 2nd FBS game there would be many opportunities including BC (if one of our ooc opponents wanted to cooperate and postpone our game)

Pass on a 2nd FBS game next year, even BC. "Too soon" with regards to playing another game at Alumni Stadium. The last one still hurts.

There is talk that UMass is Conference USA’s top choice for I believe what would be the 12th spot in the conference. UMass would have to join as an all-sport member.

Given that AD Bamford adamantly states that a return to FCS is off the table, I think UMass has to make the move to CUSA. Losing membership in a prestigious basketball league like the A-10 stings, but let's be real, how many times in the past 25 years has being in a multi-bid league helped UMass? Since 1998, they've earned exactly ONE bid to the NCAA tournament and that was in 2014. Time to either poop or get off the pot. Maybe the A-10 can ask around and see if there are any schools looking to fill their pending void in Central and Western Mass.
