Well, it's Feb and the season starts on the 17th at UMBC tournament. Preseason poll released today and looks the same every year. We're down in 6th place and ready to fight it out with Lafayette to stay out of the cellar. Hey, maybe we'll find some pitching arms to challenge the stronger clubs.
No one on the preseason all league team which is not a surprise
2024 Patriot League Softball Preseason Poll
Boston University – 72 (12 first-place votes)
Lehigh - 61 (1)
Army West Point – 52 (1)
Bucknell – 37
Colgate – 37
Holy Cross – 19
Lafayette – 16

That is a big lacrosse area and women's lacrosse has a full complement of ten teams. A seven team league gives Holy Cross Softball a better travel schedule and if we can ever get going, a better shot at winning the league. Play ball!

And one third (4) of the pre-season PL All League Team members are grad students, evenly divided between BU and Lehigh. Yet another challenge the coaching staff has to deal with.

The whole four game weekend trip to Maryland lost due to inclement weather. Baseball was lucky the weather allowed them to record a win yesterday in Virginia.

BU is 12-0. The Terriers beat both Michigan State and Villanova today. Maybe we can steal one from them on our flood plain. Nonetheless, good luck Crusaders on Monday. Everyone is 0-0 in the league at this point. Getting into the PLT is the first step.

CCSU streamed both games and while the Crusaders came out slow in game one, the effort in game two was better. They were competitive across the board and a mental mistake or two from either winning the game or at least taking it to extras. Fingers crossed.

We're playing the lowest level of D.1 softball this weekend in Norfolk - today we lost to 0-14 Norfolk St. 2-0, managing only 4 hits Could be a very long season - playing the likes of BU and Lehigh will be akin to our basketball team playing UConn

Two more losses yday by a total score of 14-2 This is really bad - no way to recover in softball without decent pitching which we don't have (to say nothing of an anemic offense)

In softball it is pitcher, pitcher, pitcher. That is always the case in high school softball and, I imagine, is close to that in college as well.

The game's more interesting than it was a generation ago- pitchers would dominate completely and the big games were all 2-1, 1-0 snoozefests.
The current players can hit a heck of a lot better; my only complaint would be they should move the fences back a bit so there are more balls in play; love doubles, triples and nice catches more than homers.

A split with Brown yesterday and our Senior pitcher, Megan Yurchick, looks like her form is coming around. BC will be tough on Friday, but the next three opponents - Iona, Merrimack and Stonehill - are all beatable. If the staff can continue to improve and the bats stay hot, starting conference play with 9 or 10 wins looks do-able.

A close loss to BC (3-2) and two wins over Iona. Roncone and Yurchick threw complete games in the wins. Merrimack and Stonehill coming up.
