It's rare that we get the BBC covering HC but this October article claims HC and Manhattan will be among the teams playing. It also says it's in November but December makes more sense from an academic perspective. Tough to travel to Ireland for multiple games before first semester exams are over if you have a choice. Of course, tough to get alums over there if it's right before or after Christmas. Wouldn't be surprised if Fordham participated as well. m.bbc.com/sport/basketball/37621815

At an earlier Hart game a seasoned alum told me we were going to "Ireland." I automatically assumed Dublin in the summer. I didnt even think to inquire further. So perhaps he was referring to this tourney. Spain, yes, Ireland no for me at that time of year.

It's probably going to be a preseason tourney playing a few days before Veterans's Day. I made the trip to Ireland, (Limerick iirc) when the football team played Fordam in November in the early 90s. Was a bit misty and cool then, but was a fun trip. Already checked Trip Advisor, and Belfast appears to be a great destination. The misses and I will make the trip if our schedules permit.

Traveling in November has the advantage of allowing the new Frosh to travel and play (as opposed to a summer trip before they are officially enrolled). I hope it comes off!

IIRC, this trip was discussed on the old board.
Harvard played Stanford in Shanghai in November, and there is the annual Maui'classic' in Hawaii where East Coast teams have played.
From a travel standpoint, Aer Lingus flew from Boston to Dublin last night in 5 hours and 45 minutes (flying distance 3,145 miles). American flew from Boston to Phoenix yesterday afternoon in 6 hours and 16 minutes, (flying distance 2,382 miles). (I know, flying west there are headwinds.)

Also, will these game(s) count against our season allowed total?

having played competitive basketball in belfast, this is awesome news as i'm sure the team will greatly enjoy the experience. shortly after i graduated from hc, i played in a big international basketball tournament in belfast with a group of players from baltimore (affiliated with the touhey brothers "peace players" nonprofit, for those who remember brendan touhey from dc who played at colgate in the 90s with adonal foyle). we primarily played irish professional teams, but there were a few other teams from the united states and africa. interestingly, nate lufkin ended up playing professionally in ireland a year or two after this for one of the teams we played. despite the history of conflict, i found belfast to be a great city with lots to see and do that was very welcoming of americans. i was actually kind of glad we lost in the quarterfinal elimination round (to ucd marian, who had a bunch of former high d1 players and some scrappy irish guards) after 2 days of doing nothing but playing basketball, since this gave us the last day off to get out and see the city and enjoy some warm guinness with the irish people! the tournament i played in was held at queens university in belfast (beautiful place), as the odyssey arena where belfast star plays (or at least played its home games) and where hc will be playing had a hockey conflict. for anyone considering making the trip, the arena is in a nice area and has apparently undergone some major renovations, so i imagine it is even nicer now. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odyssey_(Belfast)#SSE_Arena_Belfast

Nice report, dado. I made one short business trip to Belfast in the mid 90's and found the people to be as friendly and charming as they are in the rest of the island. This should be a great trip for HC if it comes to pass.

Man, would I love to go on this venture. I hope it is not at Christmas time due to grandfather duties but an early season trip would be great.
I wonder it the bookstore would resurrect those terrific, "Notre Dame, the Fightin' Irish, Holy Cross, the Winning Irish" tee shirts. If they do, I hope they go with sweatshirts this time. I could wear it religiously during hoop season to piss off my Notre Dame friends at the Hibernian Hall. They should add $20 bucks to the cost of the trip and give everyone a sweatshirt to weat (although perhaps I am getting ahead of myself).
I will absolutely cry if it is a MAAC only trip.
How let's beat that little known engineering school this afternoon!!!!!
As to the veracity of the report, when Jimmy Patsos told me the Siena/HC series was being resurrected next season, he didn't mention any thing about a trip to the North of Ireland. As he was speaking at an Irish luncheon at the Hibernian Hall during the time, I think he would have mentioned that aspect. Damn, I hope it's true.

At the game today, I was told by a reliable source that the game(s) will be in early December.

It must be a long weekend the week after Thanksgiving. Anything else would be too close to exams.

sader81- Did I see you on the stream of the Bucknell game sitting in one of the new sideline folding chairs, white hair?

Yes, but none of the others looked like they could be a guard on the football team.

Good timing, according to NY Times today, Aer Lingus flying from/to Hartford's Bradley Airport now. International carriers also considering Stewart in Newburgh, NY
