Move aside Pistol Pete Maravich. Caitlin Clark breaks the all time NCAA scoring record. Both great scorers. Don’t think Pistol Pete needs to move anywhere but certainly an amazing accomplishment for Clark to average almost 1000 points a year over her four years in college.

Agree......both great records but are completely different.......Pistol Pete.....only 3 years, and no 3 point shot....simply not the same record

No doubt conditions (size of basketball, shot clock, 3-pointers, frosh ineligibility, etc.) varied greatly. Some of their stats are different. Caitlin took 20 shots per game over her career while Pistol attempted 38, Caitlin has averaged 8.1 assists over her career while Pete averaged 5.1. Caitlin’s team record is 101-29 while Pete’s was 49-33. BTW that was a nice team win by Iowa over the No. 2 ranked Ohio State University.

78 Nailed it. Not the same record. Love CC, but Pistol Pete did it in way fewer games, years and sans a three point line. Mainstream media won’t report this because it’s not PC. ESPN is promoting the women’s game. They are cheerleaders for the women’s game. Pistol was a white male and the media wants to pump up the women’s game.

The media wants to pump up the women's game for business purposes. The rights to those games must be cheaper based on past viewership, so the millions of added eyeballs this season are pure profit. Goes for many outlets like Yahoo Sports and others who don't broadcast the games but charge advertisers based on readership of their articles. It's very doubtful it's a conspiracy based on woke ideology, imo, if that's what you are thinking. Give me a male chasing Pete's record and I'll give you a similar drive to profit off it from all corners of the media. Or give me anything that catches the public's fancy and watch the coverage pounce on it.

Clark has taken 2,593 field goals Maravich took 3,166 field goals.
Maravich took way more shots.
I don’t get it so what Clark scored more points nobody is saying Pistol wasn’t great , Clark just scored more.
To say she isn’t a star and one of the best college basketball players ever is completely ignorant.

Different record. Love Caitlin’s game. Who cares how many shots Pete took? There was no 3 point line in his day, different game.

Love Caitlan's game as well....that's not the point....the 2 records are not comparable......Pete played in a TOTAL of 83 games, and essentially no post-season games because Kentucky ruled the SEC in those days and only the conference champion made the tournament ( although I saw his last college game in the 1970 NIT in the sold out MSG where LSU lost to ARMY in the 3rd place game, followed by Marquette and Al McGuire with Dean Meminger beating St.Johns in the championship game ).. To see how the game has changed, Pete AVERAGED 38 shots per game, and McGuire turned down the NCAA bid to play in the NIT..........Amazing

Who (other than your post) said that she isn't a star or one of the best college basketball players ever? I don't recall seeing that anywhere else. Top players are frequently compared with each fan having his or her favorite.

I like that no one has pointed out that Clark is playing women’s basketball and so maybe the records or the comparisons to other players aren’t the same for that reason. She’s an all-time great women’s college basketball player. She’s growing the game significantly. All of that is amazing and should be celebrated. Same argument applies to Geno and Tara “breaking Coach K’s record for most wins.” I guess that’s technically true but apples and oranges.

If The Pistol had the 3 point line, he would have passed up many twos to step back. Would have averaged more than 57. If his dad let him pass more, he would have had many more assists, and LSU more wins.

He was a little more filled out as an adult when he played with the Celtics. He played 26 games averaging 11.5 points in 17 minutes per game in his last season. Ernie D. was another college phenom who played 27 games for the Celts in his last season averaging 3.9 pts in ten minutes per game. Both were very entertaining and you perked up to watch them when they were in the game.
