This seems like the right time of the year for this thread/discussion. Here is where we stand right now: fbschedules.com/ncaa/holy-cross/Looks like '24 is all set. 2025: FBS No.Illinois, FCS UNH, Yale, URI....I would assume Harvard as well but who knows? It's a 12 game season so we have 2 openings as of now. Another FBS? 2026: FBS Miami(OH) FCS just Yale as of now. Pretty wide open. 11 game season so we need 3 more this season. 2027: No FBS yet. FCS CCSU and Yale. Need 3 more here. 2028: See 2027 2029: FBS San Jose St No FCS scheduled yet. I believe this is another 12 season. So we could get another FBS game here. Just curious what others would like to see. Maybe some here may have some inside info? I really haven't looked too closely at other schools future opponents so I'm not sure what games are feasible etc moving forward.. What year can we get another BC game? What FBS opponents would you like to see in '27 and '28? Where should we focus our OOC opponents, CAA or Ivy?

I'd love to see them get home/home with W&M or Richmond.

I'd like to see us start playing Dartmouth again.

I'd like to see us play UConn and UMass. Both very winnable FBS games.

In general, I'm not a fan of playing 2 FBS teams in one season, unless the 2nd game is a really unique opportunity, or a local potentially winnable game. Would like to see the likes of Dartmouth and Brown back on the schedule. Columbia would be fun if we could play there in a year that we host Fordham in Worcester.
Current CAA teams I'd like to see us schedule: Villanova, Maine, W&M
I wouldn't be surprised if we see SHU since we have openings and they're going to be an FCS independent, at least in the short term.

Given the alleged issues we have with the athletic budget, especially the funding needs for the non-revenue sports, I am inclined to suggest we will see two buy games for football and three or four in basketball in most years moving forward. The dollars received for our buy games pay many bills for those teams.

In an 11 game season ('26, '27 and '28) the template seems to be an FBS, Yale and most likely Harvard....leaves 2 more games. 12 a game season ('25 and '29) template is 1 or 2 FBS games, Yale and again probably the Johnnies...if 2 FBS, that leaves 2 openings. Yale is scheduled annually through '28. Harvard is only scheduled for '24 right now but I have to think this will continue annually but who knows? UMass might be a good 2nd FBS game in 2005. Looking now, they have a crazy mish-mash of games against MAC, SEC, other G5 games right now, fbschedules.com/ncaa/umass/

Is Kit pushing for more games with BC? Would love to see them on the schedule every other year.

Kit has said he would like every football player to play BC once during their 4 yrs at HC - I would imagine he's seriously working on that

FBS games help the football costs, try to schedule teams like Syracuse, Buffalo and BC and Uconn. Travel costs are minimum.

Kit has said he would like every football player to play BC once during their 4 yrs at HC - I would imagine he's seriously working on that BC more often than not rotates through local teams for their FCS opponent. HC-BC at least every 4 years makes sense for both sides. The Fordham Rams play in Chestnut Hill this year.

Assuming we still have national aspirations (fingers crossed for the 5th year situation), would like to see us schedule at least two CAA teams a year with UNH being one of them and either URI or Maine as the other. Villanova and W&M would be nice additional CAA's to play but that seems a bridge too far - at least in the regular season. And, of course, our recent football rival and fellow MA Catholic school (Merrimack) would be a nice game each year.
If we are lowering our sights to aim for a PL championship we may as well play a random mix of NEC and Ivy teams and some sort of MAC FBS squad.

It would be the same feeling I had during our Willard hoops era and Bucknell did what we wished we could have done in the tourney.

For FBS games, My best guess and hope is BC in 2027. Not sure both parties would agree but JMU would make a ton of sense with or without Chesney in 2028.
Great venue and right in the backyard of the DMV which will likely make up a large part of our roster by then.

For FCS games - I like that we have 3 CAA games this year and would like to see at minimum 2 each year with 3 in 12 game seasons. Bryant will roll off this year while UNH and URI home/home will roll after 2025. If we don’t renew with any of those 3, it would make the most sense to add one of the closest DMV schools (Richmond OR W&M) alongside Villanova OR Albany.
I think one Ivy a year should be enough which looks to be unfortunately Yale for the future. I would prefer Harvard and not play another Ivy besides them.
Another I would like to see a home and home with would be Howard (top D1 HBCU academically and again DMV).
I would also not be surprised by a Sacred Heart or even Merrimack down the road.

No reason to think Harvard is ending after 2024; since they've created that future schedules site, they've never had much listed for the Johnnies/Crimson whichever-you-prefer.
Then again, the new coach has no ties to the HC/Harvard series specifically or Holy Cross in general.

Then again, the new coach has no ties to the HC/Harvard series specifically or Holy Cross in general. Harvard and Holy Cross traditionally play each other in multiple sports each year. It is convenient for both schools given the travel distance and time. IMO, Rougeau will push for Harvard because it helps HC's position in national branding. VR is BIG on the national branding, and getting HC to be more known outside the Northeast. (See discussion on Questbridge in the class of 2028 thread). If HC schedules FBS, I think the strong preference would be a decent $$$ guarantee game. I'll see if I can get a little birdie to flutter down to Chestnut Hill and inquire about BC.

I like BC, Army, UMass, UConn for FBS games, as well as Villanova, UNH, URI, Maine and a couple of Ivies in FCS. Dartmouth is a singularly attractive destination during foliage season. It's like Colgate but Hanover has more attractions than Hamilton and it's closer. People think the Ivies bring us down competitively but against our two current regulars, Harvard and Yale, HC is 26-45-2 and 7-29 respectively. Those games were competitive with a plus coach like Chesney, if we come back to earth a little under Coach Curran or become even better, the games will still be a challenge.
