Ok hear me out hahah. So who do I talk to about and idea i have for the band. I Love a good band at a sporting event. So I was thinking this for an idea. Band coordinator or director if we even have one of those... or go directly to Kit and get some local high-schools involved for games a home. Maybe once a week bus the kids to the hill to practice with the band and then on Saturday our band joined with a few high schools together we have one big band... helps us and gives back to the community and kids with an experience of a lifetime... D1 football on a Saturday afternoon!!!

dasbulldog I'm with you. HC builds this beautiful concert hall on campus and we have 10 students in the band. I think it would be a great concept for Kit Hughes to offer some of the top flight high school marching bands to come to HC on a Saturday and perform during the game. Most play on Friday nights so Saturday at Fitton would be a great idea. More community involvement and out reach. Love the idea.

This is a good idea. It was New Britain Day when HC played at CCSU in basketball last November. There were New Britain High cheerleaders and band members who participated in the game day entertainment. The kids are there. Presumably, most of the parents but tickets and attend as well.

Good idea.....Dartmouth High always has a tremendous band, they travel all over for competitions....would put on a good halftime show and be entertaining during the game.
For HC, ideally, I think, we should have as we have in the past, a spirited "good time marching band"....not a big band, but a spirited "pep band" that could get the crowd going during the game "Mamie Reilly" type songs etc and put on a fun half-time show.

Yeah it doesn't even have to be the elite bands..i know there has to be a few local bands that are decent to give us some help on Saturday and they would get an experience of a lifetime for alot of them. Point me in the right direction and i'll see what we get for a response Ok hear me out hahah. So who do I talk to about and idea i have for the band. I Love a good band at a sporting event. FWIW I preferred the casual dress pep band to the in full uniform band. However, I salute all in both bands for their contributions in adding joy to HC football, basketball and wherever they perform. At most schools male cheerleaders are a no-no for some reason of which I am not aware. Mixed cheerleading squads might be fun for all.

Many years ago I attended a HC football game at Fitton Field where the halftime featured several local High School bands. After their individual performances, all the bands performed together with the Holy Cross Good Time Marching band and played Chu Chu Ra Ra as the grand finale. It was enjoyable.

I suggested this high school band idea several months ago in the football thread (Colgate in game thread), and it went nowhere.
Sep 25, 2023 at 1:09am rgs318 and Crosser like this.
Post by ts1970 on Sep 25, 2023 at 1:09am Hire a large, local high school band to play at the home games. Give them all matching purple sweatshirts and let them use the HC instruments or their own. Pay their band leader a good amount per game and maybe a nominal amount to the h.s. students in addition to the free admission and a good viewing location at the game and have the HC band members work with, play and participate with them to help teach them the HC songs. While it is a commendable idea, it's not very practical. High school bands have their own sporting seasons to support and most play at their school's Friday night games. To expect them to give up a large portion of their Saturday - when they happen to have a free Saturday - is asking a lot of 15 and 16 year olds and their parents. And you make it seem like a 16 year old is going to show up with their trumpet and just start playing. A very good high school musician could probably do that, but not most. Many college musicians who play at the small college marching/pep band level would be challenged to do so. They'll have to learn a different répertoire. High school kids
Remember at Holy Cross the band is a student activity - the members do this because they want to and want to have fun doing it. If you want a (slightly) larger band (say 40 - 50 members rather than the current 20 or so) the school needs to fund a full time director who understands the band is an activity - not on scholarships like UMass, BC, or a Big 10 band - actively recruits members from the student body and allows it to be fun for the members. They have not had that since the director left in summer of 2018.

You looked way to far into it lol relatively realy simple plan. Yes I would expect an or 16/17 year-old to do just that... they're not 9-10 year old haha . And it would be a great time and an opportunityof a lifetime for them. While it is a commendable idea, it's not very practical. I did not have to look too deeply at all. I have 2 children who played in the band throughout high school and at Holy Cross. I lived it. I know and understand that of which I speak.
