Maybe, but he seems to have become a multiple inning reliever, especially lately.

Maybe, but he seems to have become a multiple inning reliever, especially lately. Yes, I don't think he'll be the ninth inning guy...more so making the point with all the Marlins dumped (Brazoban, Chargois, Scott, Hoeing), he's maybe the most reliable arm in the bullpen.

Finishing games for the Marlins doesn’t really make you a closer. 😬

Finishing games for the Marlins doesn’t really make you a closer. 😬 But I should be fair, the Marlins are thirteen games better than the worst team in baseball, Cronin's former team, the White Sox. ChiSox are on pace to be the worst team since the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics.

the 1962 Mets had a 40-120 record (0.250 win pct.) I presume they did not make up 2 rain-outs.
The White Sox are currently at 27- 83 (0.245 win pct.). If they play a full 162, their win total round to 40 - 122.
So, yes, they are on a pace to be worse than the '62 Mets.

To make matters worse, their standout starter, Crochet, in so many words said "if you trade me, I'll shut it down at the end of the regular season unless you make it worth my while". That's just the kind of competitor you want to grab for the stretch run, eh? So no one did.

6'6" Garrett Crochet looks like he just stepped out of Carl Sandburg's poem "Chicago." MLB could use somebody becoming a folk hero for standing by his team's city, but his extension demands indicate he's not that heroic.

Yeah, he and his agent may want to rethink his negotiating stance......he just cost himself a lot of money..

Enough tape on DC out there that major league hitters are beginning to figure him out.
Been tough sledding since the all star break -- 10 1/3 IP and 11 ER.

He is a ground ball pitcher. Has given up 0 Hrs in 56.1 innings pitched. His BABIP is .394. MLB average BABIP this yr. is .290. Basically, a lot of the ground balls that he’s giving up (especially since 6/5 when his ERA was 1.20) are going for hits rather than outs or DPs. Seems like if he was with a team in a small ballpark (e.g. Cincy, Boston) with good infielders…and a little more luck☘️ on balls in play, he could flourish.

The second or third time around the league is much tougher (for pitchers and batters) than the first. I have been following the season of 22 YO Paul Skenes who got off to a 6-0 record with 1.87 ERA in his first 11 starts for the Pirates. In last 5 games he is 1-2 with 3.13 ERA. Small samples and it’s not like he has fallen apart but I think batters are doing better now. He does still look like a very high potential player!
