Good news for HC and other mid majors. Clear the spoiled power conference teams who need the bright lights of Vegas to get out of their sulk from missing the Dance, out of the NIT and leave it for players, coaches and fans who want the opportunity to keep playing on a lower profile but still national stage.
Holy Cross was certainly excited to play Notre Dame and St. Joseph's the last time it had an NIT bid. Mike Brey paid us back for beating ND by sending us SK.

Will the payout for this tournament be high enough to get the teams that were to good for the NIT to play in this tournament? Will the TV money make this better than things like the College Insider Tournament?

Will the payout for this tournament be high enough to get the teams that were to good for the NIT to play in this tournament? Will the TV money make this better than things like the College Insider Tournament? The 6 teams from Fox’s three conferences are definite, as well as any other team from those conferences that are invited. My guess is that the payout will be high enough to get the other power conference teams to accept the invite. Few/no mid majors need apply. The NIT may try to survive, but in the end, it is doomed

A component of the NCAA isn't doomed for lack of resources, leverage and influence if they want to invest them. Perhaps NCAA administration is yawning about the NIT also.

The NCAA could simply adopt a policy that any school wanting to opt out of any NCAA owned post season tournament needs to let the NCAA know by 9am of the NCAA selection day, before they know the bids. If they don't and then drop out of the NIT, WBIT or NCAA they can't participate in any of them next year. Problem solved. But if they are yawning they just let the market determine if the NIT lives or dies.

You mean you can't wait to see a couple .500 teams who have little interest in playing basketball given that they missed out on the NCAA Tournament play in a meaningless post-season tournament?
