Just a reminder to the Crossports Faithful that tomorrow most dioceses in the American Church celebrate the solemnity of the Ascension. Do your best to get to Mass tomorrow, men. Here’s a recent column on the Holy Day of Obligation-or-not parameters specifically with respect to the feast of the Ascension: aleteia.org/2024/05/06/is-the-ascension-a-holy-day-of-obligation/Lift High The Cross!

I have heard rumors that many dioceses not on the east coast slide this feast day to Sunday. Either a case of people don't care enough about feast days other than Christmas to attend Mass mid-week or a new translation of the original Bible texts has shown that Jesus walked the earth for 43 days after rising from the dead

NJ followed suit and it is now celebrated officially on Sunday.

"Note: In the archdioceses and dioceses within the Ecclesiastical Provinces of Boston, Hartford, New York, Newark, Omaha, and Philadelphia, the Ascension of the Lord always falls on Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter and is a Holyday of Obligation. In all other archdioceses and dioceses, the Ascension of the Lord is transferred to the Seventh Sunday of Easter." www.usccb.org/events/2022/solemnity-ascension-lord-thursday

"Knowing" that it was a Holy Day, I was speaking with a business associate of the Italian persuasion who was a NH resident and knew he was Catholic, we were talking the night before knowing Mississippi was not a hot bed of Catholicism, I did my research to find the "local" RC Catholic Church which was a mere 30 +/- miles away. We agreed that if we caught an early Mass, we would be back in time for the start of the meeting. Off we go before the sun was up only find the very small Church (I've seen most chapels larger, not including St. Joseph's Memorial Chapel which is likely larger than the Cathedral down there) was locked up tighter than a drum. No evidence of anyone nor a rectory. My buddy and I agreed that we made an effort and probably wouldn't be going to hell for missing Mass. We return for the meeting and the other Catholics in attendance laughed at our stupidity. Didn't we know that in Mississippi, the feast is celebrated on the weekend? DUH! P.S. I note hoya's reference is dated 2022 - my adventure was waaaaay before then.
