Always one of the more underrated sporting events each year. Getting to the CWS is definitely on my top ten sports bucket list. Here's the tournament field: www.ncaa.com/news/baseball/article/2024-05-27/2024-ncaa-division-i-baseball-championship-bracket-announcedTeams of potential interest: Army, Penn, UConn, Kansas State, St. John's, Bryant. Army has been in the NCAA Tournament ever year since HC won the PL (2017). They have lost their last ten games, although did have several close calls. Their last win came against NC State in the opening game of the regional in 2018. UConn makes their sixth straight appearance. St. John's is back for the first time since 2018. Penn is back after nearly winning the Auburn regional last year. Bryant back for the first time since 2016. Been a while for Kansas State, who last made the tournament in 2013 -- hope they win the Fayetteville regional.

And definitely knows HC well. From Brockton and played football at Davidson from 1986-89. Grew up during the "golden years" of HC football.

Tough one for Army. They’ve been close several times recently. Close but no cigar today, losing to UGA, 9-8.

UConn beat higher seeded Duke 4-1, and 3 other tough losses for Northeast mid-low majors: St. John’s lost in extras to Miss St 5-2, Penn lost at UVA 4-2 and LIU led UNC 8-5 in the 9th but lost 11-8 on a walk-off Grand Slam

Purplehaze can speak for himself and I really don't follow baseball, other than Holy Cross, but guessing his comment refers specifically to college baseball and while Big East may well be a major in basketball, it doesn't necessarily follow that they are considered a "major" in baseball where the best teams seem to follow the sun - south and west - not the Northeast where St. John's, et. al. are located.
Anyway, that was my take on his comment.

UConn upset Oklahoma 4-1 in the winner’s bracket last night. Army lost to Ga. Tech 4-2 and represented the PL very well while St John’s beat Penn in 12 innings to stay alive

The UConn starting pitcher tonight is a grad transfer from Endicott. He is 2-5 on the year with a 6.71 ERA. As I type this, he has pitched six shutout innings against the Sooners as UConn leads 6-0 through six innings.
I covered him last year as he pitched a Regional Final against Johnson and Wales and this year couldn't get through five innings against Northeastern.

Anyway, that was my take on his comment. St John's hasn't been to Omaha since 1980 and won a Regional in 2012 but that is the only regional title they have since 1980. Stony Brook has been more relevant....

They have been an outstanding NE post season representative for several years now....NO reason why we shouldn't be playing them every year

They have been an outstanding NE post season representative for several years now....NO reason why we shouldn't be playing them every year But it takes two to tango. Playing the 157th RPI team midweek could have made the Huskies miss the tournament. They played 29 games against teams from Quadrant 3 and 4 in 2024. The worst New England non-conference game they played on the road was Rhode Island at 145 on March 19th. We know Holy Cross is not available to play in Worcester on that date. www.warrennolan.com/baseball/2024/team-sheet-predict?team=Connecticut

UConn embarrassed today at FSU, losing opener of series 24-4 - I guess they play better in 47 degree weather than the 97 degrees today in Tallahassee

UConn embarrassed today at FSU, losing opener of series 24-4 - I guess they play better in 47 degree weather than the 97 degrees today in Tallahassee UConn started throwing some scrubs late in that game giving up 15 runs combined in the 6th and 7th innings. Umpiring in the UConn game was very suspect (umpire said a UConn player dropped his elbow and then FSU player raised his foot to get hit and nothing to see there) and I saw Evansville get called for interference by the batter and the umps call the batter out and the runner on first who was stealing on the play. They actually had to review the play as the rule is the batter is out and the runner returns to the base.
