I'm sure we will see others - Lion (on the 'all-name team') appeared in only 5 games with an era over 15 - will be tough to stay in D.1

Maybe not if he pays full freight. The family may have that capability. They are one of the oldest English families at least in the northeast.- 1639. The first one was also named Lion. Gardiner’s Island lies between eastern Long Island and Connecticut.

If a student athlete pays full freight at HC, entering the portal isn't as significant a roster rupture as with a full schollie athlete. Head coaches are probably sympathetic if consulted ahead of time and keep a light on for the kid.

Depends on the coach. They should be, but not all of them are.

Coaching a non-scholarship team should mean being realistic about who is paying. It might make more sense to limit the portal to scholarship athletes and let others make their own arrangements without NCAA bureaucracy involved.

Coach Kahovec has told me on numerous occasions that the great majority of our baseball roster are full freight student athletes

Jack Toomey in the portal Saw on his HC baseball profile that he's majoring in mathematics and economics. Wonder what his disenchantment was.

How about $ ? He had an up and down soph season (abt .265 BA) after hitting over .300 during his frosh season when he was ROY in the league - he can definitely play at a higher level IMO. BC finished last in their ACC division so they’ll be active in the portal

Jack Toomey in the portal Saw on his HC baseball profile that he's majoring in mathematics and economics. Wonder what his disenchantment was. He is a full pay. Putting aside whether he is looking for a full / partial scollie, if he can land at a Power Five school, they he gets paid under the NCAA settlement. I am not sure BC has the money to be dishing out $20 million to its athletes every year. If every one of 600 rostered athletes received an equal share of $20 million, that's about $33,000 each. I will leave it the NCAA to figure out whether a payout to everyone on a football roster, say 105 players, means they all get an equal share. If so, the walk-ons would now be receiving fin aid indirectly. And what happens to the hard cap of 85? Inquiring minds want to know.

If you watch the team closely, the lack of support is stunning. The team players don't even have something as simple as backpacks with HC logo and their number. So go to BC, they are sponsored by New Balance, get new swag weekly, great glove deal and other equipment, they have an amazing baseball specific space with the Pete Frates Center. The students get massive academic support and help with getting the classes they need. No knock on Coach K, but your going to get a stronger deeper coaching staff at BC. It is a no brainer for a high quality player to move on if they have a chance. They play at Fenway every year as well. I think a lot of mid majors are going to become a spot for players that were missed in the recruiting process by the Power 5 then excel, they are going to move on. I think of a school like Davidson and Wofford in NC are going to have the same issue.

Speaking of Wofford, we had a frosh catcher in 2023, Lucas Manning who 'portaled' to Wofford last summer and had a great season for them batting .343 as their DH. They went to the NCAA's with a 42-20 record.

Among the many subpar teams on campus this transfer from our volleyball tear should not be a surprise- our winning pct is around .200 over the last several years - talented kids don’t want to be associated with such a program - there should be a plan in place to improve

Pak Phreek - you have the stats on our spending per sport as you've posted on the football page - where do we stand with the volleyball program ? I'd have to venture that we're last there as well.

Zack Weider frosh 2b who also pitched a bit for us is in the portal (also a walk on? punter for our fb team in '23) Not a big loss as we have plenty of capable infielders coming back
