Got to be honest....I'm a bit surprised he's staying at UConn. Maybe having to draft and coach LeBron's son was too much. Who knows, maybe not his son. Remember the saying,"He's another coach on the floor". Maybe LeBron is like having another GM on the foor.

His wife made this decision ultimately. Hurley played the game and will prob be getting more out of UConn now. Well played. His wife is very open about the fact that she has ZERO interest in leaving the northeast.

If he was using the Lakers to get more money, he didn’t play it very well since he rejected that offer before getting any further along with UConn. But regardless, he is going to get a new deal and more money.

Back to back national championships will tend to do that for a coach.

Obviously, Hurley's decision was based on more than money. UConn had no financial leverage when pitted against the package offered by the Lakers. Family comfort in Connecticut, excellent salary at UConn, the possibility of a three peat, Laker chaos w/ GM LeBron, etc. - all played into the decision by Dan & family. LA wasn't the right place at this time. And, maybe never will be.

Fly across the country to be told what to do by LeBron and other spoiled NBA athletes, or try to build a culture while the rest of college basketball woos your whole roster with promises of cash and cars... I'd take my odds with the college kids.

Laker sycophants, whose number is legion in the national media (ESPN at the top), talk about them so much you could lose sight of the fact that Lakers are a bit dysfunctional right now with a revolving door of coaches and two aging superstars.

As WCHC indicated, clearly, the Lakers job wasn't a good fit for Hurley. FWIW glad for him he stayed away from the Lakers train wreck. Will he ever get another offer from an NBA team? If media reports of LeBron & Brony are correct, LeBron's greatness on the court has affected his ego. He has become a self-centered narcissist. Have read Dolan is looking for star power for the Knicks. Hope to the heavens stupid Dolan doesn't force the Knicks to signal old man, LeBron.

Always has been since "the decision." He wants to have the legacy MJ has, but will never come close to it for a myriad of reasons. That said, he's still a force and looks to have a couple good years left in him. Not many guys averaged better than 25/7/8 this past season.

This (the drafting...not the tying it to a job) has been widely speculated about the Lakers, and some other clubs with possible LeBron aspirations. Despite his lineage clearly creating this buzz for him, I have seen some scouts regard Bronny as an NBA prospect...is it remotely possible that somebody who has an ax to grind with LeBron, the Lakers, or any other team that may be within LeBron's sights just drafts Bronny late in the first round to create chaos? This isn't the best draft class...there may be more value there than in picking up a player that may not pan out, and it would be hysterical to see the fallout. Apparently our fellow alum reads Crossports nypost.com/2024/06/20/sports/bill-simmons-has-deranged-bronny-james-2024-nba-draft-hostage-strategy/

Re: LeBron - I recommend Jeff Benedict's "LeBron." Gets fairly close on what makes the guy tick. My two cents: He's a solid dude, a Mount Rushmore-caliber player, but a lousy GM.
Re: Lakers - They are a rudderless mess. Don't see any coach out there that could instantly succeed with that franchise.
Re: Hurley - Wise to pass on Lakers. I think it would have been a disaster. No doubt he can coach. But his sideline histrionics would have worn thin by Thanksgiving on a group of grown-ass multimillionaires.

LeBron has been a special alum for our high school-St Vincent St Mary’s where he has given Millions, built a gym, and helping with scholarships
If i am not mistaken our freshman WR Sir Charles and other teammates used to workout with LeBron
And as good as he might be as a basketball player he might have been a great DE

John Havlicek was drafted by the Cleveland Browns and played several exhibition games at wide receiver. Hondo's nickname among his Browns teammates was "Spear."
He was selected in the NFL draft seventh round, but was the seventh pick overall in the NBA draft and ended up in Boston Garden instead of "The mistake by the lake" Municipal Stadium.

So we could have had another Gene Conley to cheer for year round. Probably without a Pumpsie Green incident with the level headed Hondo.
