Dan Hurley to the Lakers ?

If true, that would be nuts.
Going into the fire that will follow the James gang is a recipe for a very brief tenure there.
Earlier rumors this week had JJ Reddick taking the job after he completes his Finals announcing gig.

Of course it's about the money. But why wouldn't Hurley go? It's THE marquee job in the NBA, comes with compensation that undoubtedly amounts to generational wealth.

Meanwhile, he's got nowhere to go but down at UConn. If he flames out in LA, he'll still have his pick of whatever NCAA job he wants when the time comes. And maybe the cesspool will get cleaned up a bit while he's in the NBA.

If his family was not able to make ends meet with his UConn compensation. it's good that he can begin to make a move towards solvency with the Lakers cash...

would an offer have gotten this far without his buy-in?

Great example of how the worst case scenario isn't that bad for Hurley here. Cal's career or college bona fides weren't exactly tarnished by his NBA failure. But his bank account was nicely padded.

This (the drafting...not the tying it to a job) has been widely speculated about the Lakers,and some other clubs with possible LeBron aspirations. Despite his lineage clearly creating this buzz for him, I have seen some scouts regard Bronny as an NBA prospect...is it remotely possible that somebody who has an ax to grind with LeBron, the Lakers, or any other team that may be within LeBron's sights just drafts Bronny late in the first round to create chaos? This isn't the best draft class...there may be more value there than in picking up a player that may not pan out, and it would be hysterical to see the fallout. 

I know (at least at this phase of his development/experience) most scouts criticize any thought of him playing in the NBA outside of the connection to his father...but I thought there have been a few that have said he's independently worthy of a second round pick consideration. I could be wrong, I haven't followed it that closely

One would hope that the father would want his son to succeed in the long-term rather than pushing him to the NBA as a teenager when he does not yet have NBA level skills. Lebron James is an all-time great while Bronny may become a good college player. This contrasts starkly with the Griffeys, where the father was a very good player while the son became an all-time great and one who was an MLB caliber player at age 19.

Hurley made 4.9 million last year, and has probably made tens of millions in his career. If he wants the Lakers job that's his decision, but how much better can you (or your descendants) live with 100 million versus 50 million? 

Easy for all of us to say. If a job wants to pay you $50M more than your current job, I suspect it’s hard to say no, regardless of whether you’re already set for multiple lives. And the price of gas and groceries is no joke these days.

Plus with athletes and former athletes that are coaches...you always want to prove yourself and show you are the best...he's won back to back in NCAA, what else is left to do there? Time to win in the NBA. Sure there are some elite college coaches that never move up, but most of them at least flirt with the idea.
