“The hick from Cabin Crick” or Zeke from Cabin Creek Saw him in college and in Game 7 of the 1970 NBA finals.( the Knicks’ Reed limps onto the court. Clyde Frazier goes for 36 points and 19 assists in an easy win over Baylor, Chamberlain and West) When asked why he practiced in a gym at night with the lights out, he said:”If you can shoot in the dark, you can shoot in the light.” An all time great. RIP

One of the greats of all-time, a tremendous all-around player,
Chet Walker, a contemporary of Jerry West, also just passed away.

The "Big O" Oscar Robertson is still with us at 85. That was a golden age of pro basketball. RIP Jerry West.

Elite talent, ultra competitor. I saw him interviewed maybe a year ago, and he said he's never gotten over losing all those Finals to the Celtics.

Blaney and Shea (Jack the Shot was a freshman) 1958-59 team lost to WEST Virginia 96-90 that season. Shea- 18 Blaney-16 West- 36, 15 rebounds HC had been up 10 at the half.

Bill Bradley was MOP in the 1965 Dance despite Princeton finishing 3rd. I believe that his 58 points in the consolation game is still the Final Four scoring record.

Crucis#1 must be busy - I've been waiting for him to chime in on Chet Walker. It’s been a busy week.😊 Chet the Jet was indeed a smooth player. One of the first that I remembered hitting consistently from the corners in games at the old Comvention Hall, where the 76ers played. Convention Hall was a much larger version of the Worcester Auditorium. Back in 1965, during an NBA doubleheader, I sat in the same section on the floor with Chet Walker and Luke Jackson for game one, that was being played, before the 76ers took the floor for game 2. Games at Convention Hall during 1966 and 1967, were exceptional. Chet from the corner, Hal distributed the ball throughout, Wali with his behind the back passes,as well as making jackknife shots, Luke cleaning the boards, and Wilt scoring with a finger roll. And who can forget Dave Zinkoff. The voice of the 76ers. Fun would have been to put Dave, Johnny Most and Bob Fouracre in the same room to hear their stories from that era. I remember well those intense games with the Celtics. When the Celtics were ahead and the game was determined, in Philly, Coach Auerbach sat back in his chair, would light up a cigar, and a chorus of boos would ring throughout the Hall, with 12,000 + voices in unison calling out Red. Those were the days when the NBA was a pleasure to watch, as you followed players from college through the NBA draft and their career.

Very intense Big 5 match ups. Billy also played on the 76ers team. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_MelchionniRegarding Billy Cunningham, a sizable contingent of 76er fans were upset, when he was drafted by the team, instead of Jim Washington, who played a Villanova. Philly back then, was a very parochial place when it came to local guys playing.

Billy C. was from my neighborhood in Brooklyn. One famous incident happened when he brought his teammate, Wilton Norman C., to Billy’s house in the neighborhood. A crowd of teens swarmed his car. Wilton handled it smoothly and gracefully, all too used to the attention. Billy’s rep increased. Trivia Why did Billy C. not play a full senior HS season at Erasmus Hall ? Not injured, sick, academically ineligible.or family problem
