Don't want to turn this into a bigger deal but I believe locking a thread because some people "can't handle it" is ridiculous. Personally, I think the fire Curran people are totally delusional and not great fans but free speech and discussion should be allowed to take place on a fan board. An overlord gets to make the final call on it? Please don't turn this into the North Korean Media, you're going to lose people posting if this gets over regulated. We should be allowed to commutate even to the delusional people it makes it fun and interesting.
I've said my peace and hope to let freedom ring!

Midwester's title of the replacement thread represents the board's tone more accurately and nobody's free speech is curtailed because you can just vent your spleen on that thread if you want to.
The mechanics of the board is such that only two people control the title of the thread, the initiator and the overlord🙂, so he has to step in on the rare occasion this remarkably civil board gets off track with titles that unfairly represent HC fans in general to outsiders, imo.

I think we all had criticisms of the O.C., gameplan, and play calls. That being said, I understand in retrospect, the optics of the thread. It must be difficult to moderate a board like this. I am sure FSU and Bama have 3 or 4 different boards all with different tenors.

I agree with the original post here other than the hyperbole about North Korea and overlording. The only place where the Dean has come down more firmly and with little-to-no exception is on politics. We can agree to abide by those rules or go forum elsewhere.
However, with respect to football (and not calling for violence or disparaging students with hate speech), I'm not sure the thread should have been locked. Dean is free to do as he feels is in the best interest for whatever he has whims and designs for. And I'll never get mad. But I will at least voice a polite opinion on this thread that I'm not sure the thread has to be locked, whether we think it's beyond reactionary, or measured and well-founded.

The title of the original thread was way over the top and ridiculous. You want to criticize the coaching staff, go ahead. From my perspective, DC has a family. He's a new coach facing a huge turnover with some generational talent leaving, and you want to talk about firing him after two close losses to CAA teams? No thanks. Keep criticizing (there are valid discussions to be had), but I'm glad the thread is locked, and I hope this one plummets to the bottom of the board soon, so I'm done.

Brett Nelson had a family too but that thread didn't get locked.

While I can’t recall the specific instance, I am pretty sure Dean has locked other threads after they got to the point that posters were just rehashing the same stuff over and over again like Groundhog Day. And they weren’t political threads.
While I totally disagree with the title of the thread and already shared my point of view, I agree on two contradictory things: 1. People should have the ability to express their opinions here and 2. Dean is rightfully the proverbial 800 pound gorilla when it comes to what stays and what goes. If he wants to lock or even delete a thread, God bless him. I was offered the “opportunity” to co-administer this newer Crossports forum and declined and haven’t regretted that choice for a millisecond.

I've always looked at posting here as a privilege and not a right. I'm sure there have been other threads locked where people disagreed, but I've always been thankful for Dean Wormer's (and of course, his predecessor's) efforts to run what I consider to be one of the best (if not THE best) boards for a school of its size. Its popularity and quality have stood the test of time; no accident that folks from other PL teams are on here all the time. Long live Crossports!

Nelson was 1-9 fresh off a loss to UMass Boston at the time that 40+ page thread was started.

The loss to an in-State D-3 should rightfully accelerate that type of thread by several games.

Believe Williams was coming off a D-3 national championship and as shocking as that loss was, Ralph had accumulated some successes that offset that shocker.

Didn’t Willard’s team get beaten by D3 Williams?? Three PL championships and near misses against Kentucky, Kansas, and Marquette had us feeling pretty good about things under him.
