hcpride - clearly a guy you don't want in your foxhole. Clearly the guy who has actually been in a foxhole. BTW we call them fighting positions now. OK - clearly the guy you don't want on your football team. Better?

I would say go for it. That would be awesome. I would also take Ole Miss for the tailgate. How about UM for anniversary celebration of 46 OB? Obviously, playing BC or Syracuse makes more sense from a geographic and historical standpoint. I'd say the injury potential and humiliation potential of a PL FCS team playing a P-5 team makes the matchup a bad idea as a threshold matter. No matter the money (if any) or national exposure.
(I can watch entertaining and competitive Alabama, Ole Miss and UM games without bringing HC into the mix.)
Do you really believe that there is an increased injury risk playing BC or any other P5 team over any other game?

I wish this thread would die. But as moose1970 apparently does not want it to and mm67 wants "facts" and not "assertions," here is my attempt at the former (based mostly on the latter): Fact: More people were aware of the BC-HC than any other HC game since God knows when. That is good. Evidence: Obvious. Fact: I would rather watch HC play a P5 team than any other game on the scedhule - win or loss. - Evidence: I undertook a deep examination of my mind on Sept. 14, 2018. Fact: Players want to play in these games. Evidence: Multiple interviews, articles, etc. Fact: Recruits want to play in these games. Evidence: They are not pussies; if they were, we don't want them as recruits/commitments/players. I say we play anybody that gets us more exposure - I live in a different region than NE; this was the first week since the Men's BB run, that people have come up to me and mentioned a HC Game. A money game v Alabama w/national exposure? I'd say no. I would say go for it. That would be awesome. I would also take Ole Miss for the tailgate. How about UM for anniversary celebration of 46 OB? If you played/graduated in 1970, you unfortunately have very few cherished memories. Those were indeed dark times and somewhat explains your perspectives on playing UConn, BC, Syracuse and Navy. yes, you can say they were "dark times" but i do have my fair share of cherished memories playing football for HC. we did not win many games (in fact none in '69 due to hepatitis) and probably set some dubious record by having 3 different head coaches during my 4 years. (there is a lot more to it which will not be said here) but i played with some wonderful guys. my teammates meant everything to me and still do. it was well worth it despite the "dark times". so much for my analysis (but you did bring it up). I truly believe that HC football is going in the wrong direction scheduling major football programs like BC, Syracuse, etc. I suspect AD Nathan Pine is behind this push with support from some of the alumni (I'm not one of them). HC has a great and proud football tradition. We do not need bogus "games" with BC and Syracuse to continue that into the future. There are many schools in New England and the Northeast with strong football programs that we can schedule and play competitively. Several years ago we even played St Mary's in Moraga, Ca which a great trip/experience for players and coaches. GO 'SADERS With all due respect, I don't believe you are putting the advancement of the program in the right context. A loss to BC is not a regression for the program. This is about recruiting. I hate to break the news to you, but top recruits in FL, TX, OH, CA, etc. are not clamoring for a Patriot offer. Recruits want to play in the P5. When they don't get recruited in the P5, they are either upset and looking to prove themselves or will start to look at academic opportunities that provide the best football experience, or both. The scheduling of big programs attracts recruits who want to prove they belong at the next level. If we want to return to IAA glory, we need these games to bring in the best recruits. The goal is win a FCS championship someday. To get there, we need the best players. Not to mention, the games also provide some influx of cash. As the old adage goes, "no bucks, no buck rogers." No big games = less impressive recruits. With big games, you get the guys that want a great education, but want the opportunity to play against the top programs to show their skills.

Been out of town (in Boston for a HC game) for a few days, and this have missed a lot of this thread. Let me say this as clear as possible from the perspective only out -20 years and not +40; we want and need these games. Every player on the team (and every player I talked to from the past) loves or would have loved to compete against ACC teams.
Simply put, our QB play is terrible right now. You cannot avoid lopsided games with the type of production we are getting from the position. With a solid QB sustaining drives and making throws (more importingly, avoiding turnovers), the score is not so bad. With a Wiley, Muldoon, Randolph, etc. and a solid defense, you have a fighting chance, with some luck and a few breaks.
Lastly, that was the most fun I had as a fan in years. It is an event and brought Saders from all generations together. I spent time with Saders from the 80’s to 2000’s. Our hotel was like a reunion.
As an aside, after the game, I told the captain of the BC 50 year team (we were at the same hotel), that they got lucky they did not have to punt more or the score would have been closer.
P.S. as a public service announcement, I don’t believe that Holy Cross alums are going to be welcomed back to the Cityside bar for some time, so you should all stay away while wearing the purple.

GTown Villanova Sacred Heart Delaware Richmond Colgate HC (27-24)(BC turnovers the ball 4 times to help the upset). If you told me going into the game that BC would turn the ball over 7 times, I would still say it's a toss-up. I am not traveling all the way to Boston with two little one's for their Crusader game to see a loss.

Good to see Riley back at S....hopefully he has healed up completely. Biased (as he is the son of a childhood friend from Mattapoisett) but it seemed like we really missed his presence when he went down last year. Completely unbiased opinion - if he stays healthy, he will be all league.

I assume, the defensive mindset is to get faster. Since they are playing with 3 safeties, presumably 1 or 2 (SS and WS) will be downhill guys. Also remember they moved at least one LB to DB.

Not sure is this was already stated, but Giants v. Browns is the nationally televised game on NFL Network this evening; so you don't have to be in one of those two markets to watch.

Harvard has gotten three commitments this week from recruits who also had offers from Holy Cross. Maybe, instead of an opportunity to play, they wanted an opportunity to be recruited over and sit the bench. Why would you assume they would play at HC and not at Harvard? The level of the starters is similar. Programs with higher recruiting profiles tend to recruit better depth. With the exception of a few players here and there (depending on the school and position), someone on the bench at another Patriot or Ivy school would likely be on the bench at any other P or I school.

Winning will make the recruiting between HYP and HC more competitive, i.e. a "football" decision. When it is a solely academic decision, HYP will typically win (based on national recognition, etc.). Assuming Chesney turns the program back into a serious competitor in the FCS national level, balance on the recruiting spectrum shifts more to a "football" decision. Unless recruits' mindsets have changed dramatically in 20 years, "football" is still the paramount factor in making a recruiting decision. Although it is difficult to turn down a HYP, when you have the chance to play for a winning program, and get a great education as a bonus, that decision becomes less difficult. We have won these recruiting battles in the past (in small doses), but we need to get to the point where we win more of them. Winning consistently will do that.

I don't usually comment on talent, etc. of a specific recruit, as they have not played a down of college football yet, but this is a great commitment for several reasons. Nothing is official until he signs on the dotted line, but if he does sign, it will be great get. He appears to be a solid player, tape shows arm talent, awareness, decent with his legs. Plus, the more Florida talent we bring in, the better.
More importantly with respect to the commitment, we beat Fordham and Lehigh (not to mention a MAC school) for an early commitment. Lehigh had an in, as the kid appears to be friends with their QB or former QB. Let the commitments start rolling in.

What are the chances of a major ass whuppin' for almost all of these games? 70%? What;s the point if we can't beat Colgate? This is why girls don't play football. You play better teams to get better. If you are afraid to play against BC or any other BCS team, you might as well quit playing football and join the rowing team. Our players want these games. These games are good for the program. Playing against competition like BC will make us better, which will presumably carry over into the league.

Has Notre Dame ever played an FCS team? Don't think so. Independent need(ed) strength of schedule with conf. championship. I dont think it will happen, but down the road - who knows.
