With or without football, they are not a fit at all. Their academics are awful. The great majority of the players they recruit could not fit in under the academic index. I got a big kick out of one of the posters in that thread who claimed that the only thing La Salle had consistent with Patriot League membership was academics.

LaSalle's average SAT scores recently summed to 970 - which is 220 points worse than the worst academic school in the PL. And their admission rate is about 72% - compared to the PL average which is less than 30%. With the current PL academic index, I'm not sure LaSalle could even recruit enough players to field a semi-competitive team.

That seems to describe American before they joined the Patriot league. It was a chance for them to "up their game."

That seems to describe American before they joined the Patriot league. It was a chance for them to "up their game." American was far better academically when they joined the PL than LaSalle is now. They also had a FAR greater endowment and weren't at risk of having to close down within a decade. You are correct that American has upped their game though. American's academics were good enough when they joined that they were willing to go along with the PL's academic index and its hard floor. LaSalle wouldn't/couldn't even consider that.

In that case, that should be the end of any discussion.

Wouldn't LaSalle be better off in the CAA? Would we want another Pa school? Would we up the liga to 12 teams so we get to the Dance once every 12 years on average? If we go to 12 Fairfield would balance it out?

Would we want another Pa school? Irrelevant - since LaSalle couldn't possibly be added due to academics. There is an equivalent chance of adding Gettysburg or Swarthmore. And the chance of adding them is exactly zero. Unless a school plays football, I am pretty sure no-one will be considered for membership for a long time - unless someone leaves.

Well, when the newly-minted PC correct Crusaders (w/o armor, sword or lance) leave for the New Big East, who will replace Holy Cross in the PL?

Would we want another Pa school? Irrelevant - since LaSalle couldn't possibly be added due to academics. . Maybe LaSalle was thinking of bucking the trend at P5 schools where many of the athletes in revenue sports are on the lower section of the academic bell curve. Perhaps LaSalle wants their athletes to be the academic leaders in the school with SAT's averaging 300+ higher than the general population
