Probably not coincidental that High Point has denied star junior Andre Fox's request to transfer, trying to give Tubby an opportunity to woo him back. An interesting echo of HC not immediately releasing Proctor from his LOI when Carmody took over.

Poor strategy in both cases, forcing a player to stay somewhere he doesn't want to be is foolish, better off granting release and trying to re-recruit rather than alienating him.

Looking like Patrick Belein to Marist - per Hoopdirt. The guy they just fired was a Beilein disciple - in fact, Beilein the Younger and Maker served together as assistants at West Virginia under Beilein the Elder for a time..

Kinda surprising but also not surprising. They had a tournament appearance under him but the expectations were higher with a talented roster that includes a potential NBA prospect in Hervey and great facilities. UTA is a good mid-major job for some candidate.

Looking like Patrick Belein to Marist - per Hoopdirt. HoopDirt often reports message board speculation as fact. I don't think that's a done deal yet. Here is a tweet from an Ann Arbor writer who covers Michigan, likely quoting John Belein: "There's a report floating around that Patrick Beilein has accepted the head job at Marist. I've confirmed that this report is false."

"Looking like" - they didn't report it as fact or a done deal.

"Looking like" - they didn't report it as fact or a done deal. True. I am just not a big HoopDirt fan because I have seen so many instances where they reported totally erroneous message board stuff as fact.

Looking a little more at the Beilein story, it was reported by one source, something called "Coaching Changes" - and then picked up by HoopDirt from that site. The only issue with "Coaching Changes" info is that six days earlier they reported that Wagner's Bashir Mason was taking the Marist job. Sooner or later they will probably be right.

Especially considering the shambles the program is currently in, Capel is a good, solid hire for Pitt. Still only 43 (didn't realize he was only 27 when he got the VCU gig). Good track record as HC, 7 subsequent years with Coach K - not bad preparation. Gonna be lean for a while - 7 year contract indicative of that.

Capel, Collins, Wojo or someone else? Capel could easily ditch Pitt before they became good...Coach K just turned 71 (many of the elite guys have stayed a lot longer than they would have in the past)

Chris Mack—a 7 year deal at Louisville The length is probably due to the fear of probation

Chris Mack—a 7 year deal at Louisville The length is probably due to the fear of probation Mack always struck me as a great recruiter who didn't have very strong coaching chops, and it felt like that program took a bit of a step back after he replaced Sean Miller. He won't be able to overpower the other teams in the ACC with his recruiting the way he did in the (New) Big East (and A-10).

Chris Mack—a 7 year deal at Louisville The length is probably due to the fear of probation This hiring was the first act of the new Athletic Director, Vince Tyra. He had been acting athletic director since Tom Jurich got whacked. Tyra is the son of legendary U of L basketball star Charlie Tyra. Vince took a voluntary cut in pay (I think from approx $1.2MM to $870,000 some weeks ago) and I think that helped him land the permanent job. U of L had engaged a search firm but ended up going with the guy who was already sitting in the office. I think Jurich may have been the highest paid AD in the country at $5.3MM per year.

K obviously has no plans to retire in the near future; and b.) when he does, Capel will have no opportunity to "easily ditch" Pitt unless they are already good when that time comes.
