Bob Walsh was very successful at D3 Rhode Island College, wrote an engaging and informative blog, and had gotten passed over for a few D1 jobs before breaking through to get the Maine gig. The results over four seasons were almost impossibly bad,(24-100), with eleven players transferring out in the last three years.
Mike Maker was another hot commodity in the D3 ranks, guiding Williams to three Final Four appearances in five years, and got the Marist job shortly after Maine hired Walsh. After four nearly-as-dismal seasons (28-97), he may be headed out the door in short order as well.

Giannini was regarded as a super coach for producing an overall record of 125-111 record there - which led to an A-10 job. They have never made the NCAA tournament, and it may be many decades before they do. On the other hand, a good coach should be able to win at Marist. it's a reasonably good school with a reasonable location. And their renovated gym is better than the facilities at the majority of MAAC schools. But they haven't made the Big Dance since Rik Smits was there, although they did win a couple of MAAC regular season titles since 2002.

Following up. Maker was just fired. There will probably be a lot of interest in the job.

John Beilein's son, Patrick, was reportedly in the mix for the Marist position last time, and ended up at D2 Le Moyne, where he's gone 46-13 the last two years. Maybe he gets another look there, but Maker was a Beilein disciple, so imagine they will move in a different direction

When Maker was introduced at Marist he said they would be playing the "PO on steroids". Maybe, but they played no D so usually the other team scored more

Maybe, but they played no D so usually the other team scored more Their last three years, they ranked 341st, 330th, and 338th in the nation defensively. Hard to win with that performance. It's even harder when you also rank 292nd offensively, as Marist did this year.

Walsh beat Holy Cross in scrimmage while at RIC. 1-1 IIRC against us while coaching the Black Bears.

Marist won back-to-back regular season titles when Jared Jordan was there IIRC. However, they couldn't win the MAAC tournament. I think they were actually somewhat close to being an NCAA bubble team in at least one of those years.

Giannini won 20+ twice; Rudy Keeling once. I was surprised the team that HC played in the ECACs in 1980 did not- featured Rufus Harris (Celtics draft pick from Framingham who got cut the last day of training camp along with RP), Rick Carlisle (who then transferred to Virginia) and Champ Godbolt (who, of course, ended up at HC). Only 15-13. No big guys it would seem. (edit)- I just saw Rick Carlisle on film playing against NC State in the 1983 NCAAs (Survive and Advance 30-30).

not definite, but reported that Memphis may fire Tubby, and replace him with---yes, that experienced coach, Penny Hardaway probably will have similar success to another pro who never coached--Chris Mullin

Mullin seems to be building a decent program at St John's. He has recruited some talent and they have done well in most games, even in close losses to the some of the big boys.

Penny coaches said studs (as well as a local high school). Therefore hire Penny and the studs will follow. So will the NCAA investigators, of course, but I guess that's another story for another day. Oh, and to make sure there's someone around that can actually coach, Larry Brown will be his assistant. I guess if all that happened then it would prove that (for the right price) a blue chipper will choose the AAC over a power conference.

Maine just "hired" their women's team coach Actually was announced concomitantly with Walsh's dismissal. Richard Barron's last work on the men's side was as an assistant at the University of the South, 25 years ago. Good luck to him - their best returning player, Aaron Calixte, said yesterday he is transferring

High Point fired their coach.
So if we count the 2 coaches that Jihad Proctor was under here (technically), he will have had 5 coaches when the new guy gets hired.

In what world do you and your boss get fired concurrently (not that unusual).....BUT your boss' last act (apparently) is to have to tell you? Especially if you didn't get along w/him in the first place? Strange.
