From Football Scoop:
"Holy Cross (FCS – MA): An update on Bobby Chesney’s staff per sources: The offensive side of the will have Liam Coen Offensive Coordinator (Maine), Chris Smith Offensive Line (Holy Cross), Ari Confesor Receivers (URI), Drew Canan Running Backs (Assumption) and Anthony Demichele Tight Ends (Holy Cross). The defensive side will have Scott James Defensive Coordinator (UNH), Brian Vaganek Linebackers (Holy Cross), Charlie Noonan Def. Line (Holy Cross), Anthony Barese Secondary (Assumption), Matt Colangelo Def. Assistant (Villanova)."
Good to see that Smith, Noonan, DiMichele, and Vaganek are being retained from the prior staff.

Interesting that Barese is coming as a position coach after being a coordinator and Asst. HC for Chesney at Assumption. Also, wonder if he was told he was out of the HC running over there.

Or maybe his job at Holy Cross is his fall back position and still in the running. Chesney looking out for his guy. Don't forget, we've seen coaches "hired" at Holy Cross only to find out less than a month later that, in fact, they went somewhere else. I could easily see an agreement either verbal or in writing that gives him an "out' from coaching at Holy Cross if he gets the Assumption or other head coaching position.

Has Assumption named a successor to Nick Smith as AD? There may be no one to counsel Coach Barese on his past or future status at Assumption.

Seems like a solid staff -- good blend of HC grads, coaches on staff that know the returning players, and what I would consider to be quality up-and-coming coordinators. One of my biggest gripes about the previous regime was the inability to build a staff - every year was one or two holdovers and seven newcomers. While there will also be some turnover, some consistency from year to year is vital to long term success.

IMO, it’s a great sign about Chesney. Unlike our last two basketball coaches, he was not too stubborn to think that he needed to have Coordinators who were completely aligned with him and who wouldn’t bring in fresh ideas. It would have been much easier for Chesney to just bring over his DC from Assumption, but it appears that he recognized the need to surround himself with guys who have D1 experience, and was not afraid to have new perspectives on his staff (something that has been desperately needed by the last two basketball coaches).

How did having assistants from a prior regime work out for FCSK? FCSK coach have had Brad Stevens, Coach K, and Roy Williams as his assistants and he wouldn’t have been fit to be a head coach at HC. Also, it’s quite different keeping the full staff of assistants from the previous coach (FCSK) versus having a mix of the old staff at HC, staff at Assumption, and new outsiders (Chesney).

Chesney better be undefeated to live up to your high expectations. He is doing everything your way, unlike the hoops coaches.

Good point, sader1970. If Barese were to get the Assuumption gig, can easily slide DiMichelle to secondary and Colangelo or an addition to TE.

Is that the same "street' that said Chesney had been rejected by HC and refused an interview?

Looks like both he and Dom won the Harry Agganis award -- An interesting aside, my grandfather roomed with Harry Agganis in the 1952 North v South All-Star Game.

Assuming you are referring to basketball, I don’t really consider that expecting more than having an offense and defense that both rank in the bottom 18th percent of the country and getting nothing from 80% of your first two recruiting classes in year 3 is really all that unreasonable.

I think that this is an excellent staff given all of our circumstances. This appears to be a staff that we'll be able to retain and build a great long-term foundation with if we're able to execute.

He’ll need that strong staff to pull off the nearly impossible: Create a winner while battling a tougher schedule and while rebuilding off a 4-7 year.
FWIW I’m scouting next year’s second week opponent as the Pinstripe Bowl begins

Many fans disguised as empty seats At the Davidson and Akron game playing at 7:30 AM (Hawaii time) on Christmas Day, the number of those at the scorer's table and the broadcast 'booth' outnumbered those in the stands. Realized the photo is of USC in white (Trojans) but no matter -- empty seats are empty seats.

Many fans disguised as empty seats 17 Degrees at Yankee Stadium. Without the wind chill factored in. Surprised anyone is there at all.
