by the way the Dukes open up their 2018 season at UMass on the last saturday of August. I wonder what they receive for this game, as UMass does not draw very well (probably a modest sum)

In a previous posting "nhteamer" stated that we could add Duquesne to the Patriot League. The Duquesne Dukes would never leave the A-10. He may have meant as a football only member. They couldn't even think about joining unless the academic Yandex was radically changed. The majority of their players would be inadmissible.

IMHO rebuilding vs scholarship programs in our league There are very few baseball scholarships in the Patriot League. Bucknell has none, and Lehigh and Lafayette have a small number.

So 4 of 6 have scholarships. Love to see Coach DiC on an even playing field. Thanks for confirming my point.

we've known how you feel for a long time - ok, we get it I think we're giving out enough schollie money already in an athletic program that loses about 2 of every 3 contests. unless you want to pull scholarship $ from another sport and make it a zero sum calculation, I vote to remain as we are.
I'm sure you know that Lehigh and Lafayette have missed the playoffs quite often recently.

Take a scholarship away from the minor sports like lacrosse, hockey, and soccer. Take one from basketball also and limit us to 12 basketball scholarships. That’s my opinion for what it’s worth

Hockey could probably spare one or two, maybe three for baseball

Sad state of affairs when lax and soccer are "higher profile" than baseball.

Sad state of affairs when lax and soccer are "higher profile" than baseball. For February and March, in Worcester? Yes, it is the case.

I did. Even later on in the season, this isn't baseball weather, isn't a college baseball part of the country, and is subject at a minimum to iffy weather.

Let’s be honest, a Patriot League team has a strong case to win a Lacrosse national championship and soccer would take a couple of bounces going their way but possible. Baseball not so much!

If we're measuring what we should spend on athletics based on their chances of winning a national championship, baseball should get the full 11.7 scholarship allocation over basketball.

But lax, soccer, and hockey all over basketball if that's the case too. I would gauge alumni and fan interest, along with those championship chances and school/regional resources (not equally weighted). Baseball lags in most categories.

the (crazy?) revamped league schedule called for a 4 game series this weekend between navy and bucknell in lewisburg. the teams split today's games, bison winning game one 10-2 and navy edging buck 3-2 - seems they got lucky with the weather

Navy swept Bucknell on Sunday so the mids are 3-1 in the league this weekend (let's hope) we have a very difficult game/travel schedule with the new league slate, with a dh in Annapolis on Saturday and a dh in Lewisburg on Sunday.

Northeast baseball is a gamble with the weather....some times you win, some times you lose. There will be almost no college baseball north of D.C. this weekend.
