I'd be surprised if he's a walk-on. At 6'9 that doesn't seem like a scouting report for a PL walk-on. My guess is that the unattributed postings we've had that claim open scholarship(s) are correct You're probably right. I'm uncomfortable, though, speculating about what scholarship may have opened up until we have some more definitive news I am going to assume that he's a walk on until I hear officially (i.e. a kid's Twitter account) that someone is leaving. Given the timing, maybe this kid came in through the regular admissions pool.

Apparently the last shot was after the clock sounded.
What's with the knee brace?

You learn something every day. I did not know that Powers without a scholarship was promised a spot on the team At this point, neither the HC website or twitter has any mention the kid Wonder whether Powers' (or any PWO's) status on the team is less protected than a scholarship player's. Perhaps 137 or somebody else could weigh in. Don't believe there would be any HC comment on CL until he signed an LOI (has he?).

I saw him play for Don Bosco season before last. He has a beautiful outside shot. He hustles and can play good D. If he will be underneath for HC, it could help if he could put on a few pounds of muscle over the next year.
Don Bosco plays a very tough schedule and St Benedict's (who beat Blair by 1 point) is an outstanding prep school with several solid D-1 players. His stats were garnered against some very good competition.

A couple fun facts -
His sister plays for Williams. Tucker Richardson, who PG'd with Chris at Blair this past season, will be playing for Colgate next year

Was it NAD who had a particular dislike for the player?

His stats were garnered against some very good competition. thanks for the firsthand account, rgs. like almost every player at hc, it sounds like despite having some potential (big, can shoot, obviously values defense, played great competition), he will be a work in progress. in this case, physical development, which can be easily achieved. we rarely ever land finished basketball products at hc. even some of our best players were either similarly thin and had to bulk up (big pat whearty), were too heavy and had to lose babyfat (tim clifford), were completely unathletic and needed even basic footspeed (tim szatko), were extremely athletic but had little basketball skills (malcolm miller), tweeners that needed to grow into expertise at a true position (kevin hamilton - imo, neck and neck with keith simmons for best hc player since rob feaster), etc. etc. etc. the only player i can think of who had all the tools right out of the gate and sustained them throughout a strong career over the last decade or so was keith simmons, and as i recall, he played at a small school in ny and was not terribly active in aau. rare to find someone like keith slipping through the cracks in this day and age. in any case, watching our guys develop is one of the things that makes following hc basketball fun. with just a few exceptions, comparisons from freshman year to senior year are often pretty dramatic at our level.

Hopefully this is a preferred walk-on situation, a little concerning that Bucknell, who was looking to recruit big men this year, had him in for a visit and didn't pursue.

There are very few 6’8’ or 9”s who are walkons , esp those that play for very strong programs and shot 42% from three

There are also few bigs who can play that had no offers out of high school or after a post grad year, hopefully it works out, if we're going to take a flyer better to do it on a big man.

Yes, there is reason to pause. However, there is a strong upside potential here.

Only question at the moment is, how long does it take for us to find out exactly how this commitment changes the roster?

We do not need his minutes until his junior year with JF and MF at the 5 this upcoming year.We seem to be counting on him at least being MF’s backup for 2 seasons. At best, maybe Chris could play with Matt If we are going to have paint defense as an important component of the "system," we need additional minutes immediately, as Floyd is the only big on the roster who can defend right now, and MF's athleticism would need to drastically improve for him to get there by next year.

Not that blocks are the only way to judge interior defense, but In 18 PL games playing around 11 mpg, Matt Faw had 12 blocks, 15th in the PL

Regardless of whether or not he's on a free ride, it's nice to know that at least we have another kid on board next year with some size. Welcome Chris!!
