Few observations:
Where is Brekke? Wasn't he in the starting line up last year? Not on the two deep with 4 Frosh ahead of him? Jordan Montgomery who made a few plays last year not on two deep. Figured Lowery would have been in the mix at LB.
Good to see Riley starting the year. Hopefully can remain healthy. My guess is Teeter sees the field relatively soon in passing downs based on what I saw in a practice.

I hope we'll use him as more than a blocker

OL smaller than in the past few years. Of course, that could be because they don't update player weights on the roster. Or that Chesney wants more strength and agility over just mass weight gain.

4-2-5 is a nickel defense. Perhaps HC fears Colgate's passing more than its running, or perhaps HC -- with Chevalier done -- doesn't have enough experienced depth at linebacker. 4-2-5 is not necessarily same as nickel. For Lots of schools, TCU is particular, it is their base. However, some 'gate people think this year's QB is their best ever.

I assume, the defensive mindset is to get faster. Since they are playing with 3 safeties, presumably 1 or 2 (SS and WS) will be downhill guys. Also remember they moved at least one LB to DB.

Good to see Riley back at FS....hopefully he has healed up completely. Biased (as he is the son of a childhood friend from Mattapoisett) but it seemed like we really missed his presence when he went down last year.

For Lots of schools, TCU is particular, it is their base. However, some 'gate people think this year's QB is their best ever. 4-2-5 a D geared to blitzing. Good vs runs and longer passes. Also flat passez and bubble screens. Very weak on mid range passes and any cross or rub patterns. Key to D is 2 very athletic and quick LBs. Have responsibility for i side runs and pass coverage in the middel out to 15-20 yds. It is UNH base D. Lehigh started it last year. Didnt work out too well. Lost all our starters at CB and FS. We are playing a hybrid 4-2-5 this year. Similar to flex 3-3. One DE is now a standing DL. Need a very agile and fast kid. A blitzer and covers the wide side for option and sweeps.A really big LB or a slender DE . Likely we added it for a 6'4 235 athlete. Athletic and fast. Not very experienced. Altho in HS he played wr te rb and on D dl lb and db. No not all at the same time but multiple ones in games.
