As reported on the Lehigh board yesterday - couldn't find it on Athlon, maybe another poster will have more luck. Lehigh picked to win, Holy Cross picked to finish 5th.

Lehigh is losing only Kahron Ross, if I have analyzed the roster correctly. Understanding that there is more to a proper evaluation than just points and minutes (e.g. rebounds, assists, defense), here are some calculations of what the first four teams are returning. No doubt I have made some errors, hopefully minor, in regard to underclassmen who might not be returning, so let's consider this the roughest of analyses
Team= % of Minutes Returning/% of Points Returning
1) Lehigh= 84%/83% with Ross leaving
2) Bucknell= 55%/37% with Thomas, Foulland, Brown leaving
3) Boston U= 62%/65% with Hankerson, Havener, Johnson, Goff, Mosely leaving
4) Colgate= 63%/62% with Roberston, Swopshire, O'Brien leaving

A 5th place finish would be severely disappointing.

Last year HC finished 6th last year, graduated literally no one, and only lost Karl Charles who didn't play for the final 1/3 of the conference portion of the schedule. I set the bar low last year with the understanding it would be higher this year. If HC finishes 5th, I will consider it a very disappointing season

If we finish 5th, coach Carmody should seek employment elsewhere or a well deserved retirement.

If we returned 100% & 100% with that PoY candidate we might have been rated in the top 4... a lot of respect for the Bucknell program...although the pole of PL coaches might put us in the same position it might juggle the top 4 alignment.

I’m aware of the “reloading” versus “rebuilding” argument... but has Bucknell signed a great class to replace these huge losses ?

I could see 5th place.....as in a 5 way tie for first. I expect it to be really jammed up near the top.
Bucknell may have lost a lot, but as usual they've got guys waiting in the wings to transition from supporting to lead roles.

Bucknell may have lost a lot, but as usual they've got guys waiting in the wings to transition from supporting to lead roles. I think that's fair to say. Kimbal Mackenzie, who had his junior year ruined by a torn abdominal muscle and subsequent surgery, was the only soph to make All-PL in 2016-17. If healthy, he should be All-PL again. And Nate Sestina, who has had to back up Foulland and Thomas the past two years, should also make All-PL if healthy. The key will be how the others step up. Both Jimmy Sotos and Avi Toomer have the ability to make some level of All-PL, and there are a few other players capable of doing a lot more than when they were role players supporting Foulland, Brown, and Thomas. There are also two freshmen who should be significant contributors. First place will be tough, but I certainly expect a top three finish.

What is Mackenzie’s health situation presently ?

What is Mackenzie’s health situation presently ? Very good. Last year he had the torn abdominal muscle, which he tried unsuccessfully to play through. Then had surgery and missed 6 or 7 weeks. Came back and played fairly well down the stretch but wasn't back to 100%. But I think that was just due to having missed a long period of time. He supposedly played really well on their recent European trip, and he scored 24 in their most competitive game.

How did Sestina, Sotos and Toomer do in Europe ?

How did Sestina, Sotos and Toomer do in Europe ? Sestina didn't play, as he was recovering from minor knee surgery. He is now fully cleared to play again. Sotos and Toomer reportedly played well.

Carmody has not finished higher than 5th in his conference for the past 16 seasons (but did have two 5th place finishes during that stretch!), so I can see where Athlon is coming from.

Comparing the Big 10 to the PL...interesting but not worth much in the PL 2018-19 pre-season prediction..

So Athlon now rates teams’ prospective rankings based on where the coach has finished in current and previous jobs ?

Comparing the Big 10 to the PL...interesting but not worth much in the PL 2018-19 pre-season prediction.. Just comparing his performance against the teams that he was tasked with competing against in his conference. Don't shoot the messenger of the facts!

Right. Coaching at Northwestern Coach Carmody should have been expected to compete on aneven basis versus UM, IU, TOSU and the other Big 10 stalwarts just as Vanderbilt’s football coach should be able to post as good a record as Alabama, Georgia, and LSU. Sure..,

Sure.., Don't forget Wake Forest in the ACC. Wonder how Stanford and Duke do it although I can't remember the last time Duke football was a going concern on the national level.

I like the fact the Swamy predicts a 5th place finish; you can sneak up on a lot of teams from there, especially in out of conference games. That said, finishing 5th would be a huge disappointment!

If we finish 5th, it will be time to find a new young coach. I believe that the game as passed Carmody by.
