Got a late start today but trying to run though the replay of the game. Got through the first half. But before that, yes, now that you self-identified, '45, it was you who said Yale were beatened dogs (Bulldogs, presumably). Didn't know you wanted credit/blame for the comment. The play I especially wanted to look at, and there were several, was the onside kick because as I posted earlier, kudos should have been given not only to our kicker and Grant Holloman for catching the onside kick but the player who blocked out the Yale player to prevent him from getting to the ball. That was yet another freshman, #24 Terrell Prince (DB, 5'11" 185 lbs) who flattened Yale senior #81 6'2" 200 lb Alex Galland listed as PK/P. If you watch the replay, it is at approximately 42:20 with 3:46 left in 1st quarter. The 100 yard initial Yale kick return for TD was not a fair catch, as some in the stands thought. It was dropped on the goal line, bounced back up and the Yalie made a great run but lots of missed opportunities and a lot of great blocks by Yale return team. On the Yale interception of the ball thrown to Bell, it sure looked like pass interference with an early hit in the back by Yale defender with his arm wrapped around Blaise so that the ball bounced off into the Yale defender in front of Blaise. So far, the most egregious reffing error was 8:12 left in 1st quarter. As the announcers called it "Baker knocked it free." Clearly the ball bounces out of Yale receiver's hand and goes out of bounds. The receiver was on the 41 yard line when the ball got to him. It was either an incomplete pass or you could interpret is as a caught pass and ball fumbled and went out on the 39 yard line. Instead, the refs spot the ball on the 42. Receiver never got that far! To me, refs had two choices. Incomplete pass and back to the line of scrimmage or complete pass, fumble, Yale had last possession when it went out of bounds and they get it at the 39.

I only saw it live (on TV) but thought the onside kick key block might have been a penalty, got him from behind. Good no call

Lou, after your post, I played it back twice. While it was very close, looks like he got him from the side and was right in front of an official (who was likely looking at the ball coming at him). It should have been a "no call" especially given some of the other examples of poor officiating. Oh, and while I have been calling it a block, and will defer to more experts, on a kickoff, aren't we theoretically on defense and not truly blocking. Yale would have been the ones blocking. OK, discuss . . . .

I watched the game twice today (I should say "only" twice!) and I agree that it looked like a good block. Great teamwork on that onside kick.

Just rewatched. Three add'l takeaways for me (1) heck of a catch by Dorsey for the TD, (2) can't believe that the obvious fumble by Dudek in OT was not so ruled, (3) loved the after-game hug shot of Coach Chesney and, presumably, Coach Chesney Senior

OK, discuss . . . . The kicking team can't block an opponent until they are eligible to touch the free kick which means either the ball has traveled at least ten yards or the receiving team has touched the ball whether it has gone ten yards or not. I can't remember how close a Yale player was to the kick but if there was one in the area, he would have made a smart play to signal for a fair catch.

The ball was, of course, kicked from the 35 yard line. The contact was made at the HC 49 yard line, 14 yards, and ball caught by HC on the Yale 49.

Nice play taking the kid out, but even without it I still think the kid was going to catch the ball. Kicker put it in a perfect spot.

Agree, he clearly had the ball, was headed down field and we stripped it, which all happened very fast, but c'mon, was easy enough to figure out from the replays

What are the odds there are meetings going on right now in New Haven to try to find a way out of the rest of this series? History tells us they only like to play when we’re down. Hopefully having a local guy as head coach there trumps their knee jerk reaction to take their ball and go home.

And that we do something about those dangerous sidelines. I've always wondered if there is something they could do to remove the first couple rows of stands, they aren't needed; therefore the wall could be further from the field. The supports underneath the field might come up too far to be able to do that, however. It would also make the sight lines better. The first couple rows create too much of an obstructed view into the corners. I wonder why they didn't do any of that in 1984.

Don't forget 4th and 1 in OT should have been 4th and 2 (the set of downs where Yale went for it and made it, not the next set when they got stopped). Terrible spot and the replay confirmed that (but no challenge made). Maybe they kick a fg 4th and 2, so that one worked out in HC's favor.

Put the bench somewhere else. Also there was no help from the Yale guys to slow the momentum, don't know if football players do that sort of thing

I hope that you are correct. But, as we know, it does not always work that way. I remember a Bucknell upset that no one seemed able to explain.at the time.

Ng's winning kick was shown on ESPN's one hour college football recap show late Saturday and repeated on Sunday. So many clutch plays in that game by HC - Congrats to all players and coaches
