According to the announcers, Chesney said Ng is better as a freshman than Cole Tracy was I thought the announcers said: Chesney said Ng is better as a freshman than Cole Tracy was [as a freshman] But who cares ... what a performance by a kid who has been at HC for a couple of weeks !!

This defense is a very positive sign of what Chesney and a good coordinator can do.
Against two of the stronger 1-AA teams in the schedule, we have allowed 24 and 28 points, but each game included a touchdown that was not given up by the defense, as well as a sudden change TD - in the Colgate game there was a quick 3-4 play drive after a fumble, and against Yale the 1 play TD drive after the early pick.
If you remove those 14 points from each game, that’s 10 and 14 points given up against Colgate and Yale. Very impressive.
Assuming we get the OC position squared away, there is very good reason to be excited about the “Chesney Era.”

I’ll tell you a couple of attributes that I see in Coach Chesney that he may be inculcating in the team: self-confidence and swagger. He came out on field to talk with Ng before the kick and was as cool as can be...,,

Ng is going to be a real playmaker...both placekicking and punting..Who was the kicker HC had from the big football HS in Cinncy I think....Tony Melink??? early 80's??? I think he may have hit a few game winners..

Best play of the game didn't count, the one hand grab of a long pass, don't remember who caught it, thought he had a foot inbounds

Anyone think this would be the way the game would come down when HC was down 21-0? We may look back at this as the turning point of the season. i hope so! More like the turning point of the program.

Amazing finish. Hats off to our rock star fresh kicker for erasing an absolutely embarrassing string of offensive play calls on that final possession. This is a game that we lose at any point in the last nine years. I think the play-calling was appropriate under the circumstances. Frankly, I thought he might kick the FG on 3rd down. He has absolute confidence in his kicker. He was right. 3 runs up the middle and a 45-yard chip shot for Ng.

I was surprised Yale didn't go for the FG. Shades of the Dartmouth game, IIRC. Also, a tip of the hat to ADNP, FCTG, and the ground crew for the field being in absolutely great shape. That investment in new turf has paid off, and helps the kicking game. Good call. Field was in amazing shape. Except for the lame shield in the middle.

Actually, that'd be me, KY, but I said it at the game and you probably didn't hear me say it. (think 45 and anpcpa would vouch for me) Though, I was off a bit and said he would kick a 55 yarder not a 45 yarder. Despite spotting Yale 21 points, which I did not anticipate, the game pretty much went as I originally expected. While Chesney was not here last year, you know he knows what happened in the Yale Bowl. That's motivation for the team. Second, we weren't playing at their place for a change. Third, it was our 3rd game and their first. Finally, we showed again that our conditioning is, for a change, better than our opponents and we get stronger as they wear down. We cannot afford to look past Dartmouth at all but we really need to get payback for last year too. If the offensive coordinator will let Wade throw on occasion before we are down 3 TDs, we might do well. I thank Clifford for his service but he's not the guy we need to be starting/playing under center - at least at this point. We did see when Cozier walked off, he seemed to be holding his wrist but we saw him with an ice pack on his right shoulder. While we would miss him, let's see how Oliver and Bruno can do with additional reps. Finally, I gotta see the tapes because there were some spectacular catches by the receivers and last but not least, I have to see if we were missing things in the stands as there appeared to be some equally spectacular bad calls and missed calls by the refs.

I remarked during the game that if you didn't know any better, you would have thought the field was artificial turf rather than the real thing. It was spectacular. I honestly felt it looked even better than every professional field I've seen.

That game was amazing to be at in person. Down 21-0. Score Iwith 50 seconds in the game on 4th down from the 30. They had no business winning that game. Yale got way to greedy in the 4th quarter and overtime stopped pounding the rock and went for two many 4th downs. That said that win was amazing. HC even lost 3 yards in overtime and the kicker still made a huge kick. I think that comeback performance is worth me going back to see them play Dartmouth next week. But it will be impossible to top that game. Listening to people talk after the game, saying this was the best game they have seen at Fitton Field in a while. GO CROSS PS- How good was the defense in the second half and overtime. Forcing turnovers in HC territory and making keep stops.

The thing is - there were so many amazing things HC did in the second half to win this game that it’s kind of a blur to me. My gut tells me that there were both intellectual/strategic/coaching aspects at play, but also many intangible, emotional things going on that none of us will ever know, that resulted in today’s win. Anyone see Chez giving the pre-OT speech? Simply awesome.
I think we have quite a lot to look forward to on Saturday afternoons for the foreseeable future.
P.S. give the rock to Oliver. He’s basically knocks defenders out of the game with his running style. I counted two casualties today. He’s Bragalone but . . . dare I say . . . better? Use him. My kinda player.

Our little group sat right behind RB Bruno's parents. He will be good as well. Mom looked to have some micro video machine so I will bet she got some nice shots. I noticed on Dad's parent game pass that in very small print that I would never be able to read without glasses, it had the HC roster info.
BTW, while I didn't necesarily agree, one in our group thought when we were down 28-21 that Yale looked "beat." When we tied and went OT, I was a little surprised when Yale got stopped a couple of times that they didn't just go for a chippy field goal but suspect they thought we had the momentum and that if they got a FG, we would get a TD.

In the midst of the quick hole that the team dug and some challenging injuries to our top 2 running backs, the team competed in a way that makes Crusaders everywhere proud.
Geoff Wade star of the day and displayed tremendous poise under real pressure. #GAMER
Other names we should take real pleasure in seeing emerge as real players include: Joe Lang (all over the field), Spencer Gilliam, and obviously Derek Ng among many others.
Total team win.
In chatting after the game, the comment was made that the Yale coach did not kick a FG because he felt that HC would scare a TD if need be. "when you're occupying the other coach's mindset, you have the psychological edge and that is HUGE."
Ring of Honor induction + Fifth win ever vs Yale + 1st win ever v Yale at Fitton Field + Winning in OT = GREAT DAY TO BE a CRUSADER
We're on to Dartmouth and let's get some payback there as well

Great win for the Crusaders & Chesney today vs. a very solid Yale team. Lots of young freshmen and sophmores contributed on the field.
Let me say this " Chesney gets it " - he and his father drove thru the baseball field after the game chatting it up with the people still there. He wants you to believe in him and support him with his team.... You could see the look in his face of accomplishment and this being the start of something special at Holy Cross.....
Father Burroughs hustled down to the field to congratulate Chesney after the game with Nate Pine making the rounds of congratulations to each and every player as well.
A great day to be a Crusader !!!
Beat Dartmouth !!

I checked the box scores on goholycross.com. They go back as far as the 2004 season. In none of those victories did we overcome a 21 point deficit. This is clearly the biggest comeback in many, many years--perhaps decades. Maybe the website will investigate and let us know. I'll guess that this is among the top 3 or 4 biggest comebacks (i.e. largest deficit overcome) of the past 50 seasons.

Another point not to be underestimated and much like in the Colgate game, the team looked stronger and better conditioned as the game wore on and especially in the 4th quarter. HC's hidden weapon: Chris Grautski

I felt good about OT for the same reason...HC looked fresher, defense played better in Q4 than the other three. Can't remember the last time I felt that way, I'm usually the one screaming for them to go for two instead of tying it up
