there is one Football player now no the lax roster - Tyson Hugee. Not sure if he's simply made the move to Lax full time, but there is one player on two roster right now.

He transferred in from Columbia. I don't believe he's played in the first two seasons on the team.

Maybe Sluka is being recruited mainly as a kicker, who can back up other positions. From several comments about him, he is 'a scollie level' lacrosse player.. A profile of Sluka from August 2018 in Newsday. www.newsday.com/sports/high-school/football/kellenberg-s-sluka-elite-lacrosse-player-is-hooked-on-football-1.20657265Not clear whether he had offers to his liking after his senior season, so on to a PG year at Peddie. According to Maxrivals, Peddie's 2019 football team had 29 players on its roster. Don't know how well one can judge talent in schools with small rosters; 29 is basically a one deep unless many of the players go two-way. IIRC, CTG allowed one Kalif Raymond to run outdoor track during the spring.

I would not swear by that stat of 29 players just because Maxrivals wrote it. It may be accurate, or not.

Possibly QB name - Matt Sluka. Played at Peddie this year, but from NY. Followed by James and Chesney recently. This is his Instagram page as far as I know: www.instagram.com/matt_sluka10/?hl=enInteresting.

The football/lax combo is for most players, I am afraid, a thing off the past. Spring football practice. has changed things. a great deal.

.Sluka is a terrific athlete who can do many things.....good arm and very poised in the pocket. Watch his feet stay under control and is deceivingly fast with great field vision. He will be a great addition to Chesney's warriors. Excellent recruiting by the HC staff !

According to Maxpreps, Peddie was ranked #1 in football among prep schools, #5 among Greater New York area schools, and #265 nationally. Based on a record of 8-0, only one game being close.

Based on his Instagram profile which says Holy Cross Football ‘24, it would appear so. Can find no official announcement, however.

Matt Sluka passed for 35 touchdowns versus 4 interceptions in his three years and ran for 64 touchdowns to boot.

Maybe he hasn’t posted offers he has received? I find it hard to believe that we are the only program to offer him. If we are, that would raise some questions in my mind.

Is that because he didn't announce any offers, or he literally has no other offers? The Newsday article dated before the start of his senior year of high school indicated he was drawing serious interest from top-ranked lax schools, so, at least with respect to lacrosse, he wasn't quiet about schools pursuing him. He seems to be more of a rushing QB, than a passing one; last three years average of 102 yards per game passing, 129 yards per game rushing, according to Maxpreps. As he plays DB, and kicks xtrapoints and FGs, perhaps he is being recruited similar to a utility infielder, he can play multiple positions reasonably well..

At a minimum, Sluka would appear to be an excellent athlete for whom we can definitely find a place to play over time. There are folks on Twitter who claim his arm is very good in terms of strength and accuracy. Time will tell where he plays but i think he’ll play somewhere. One thing we know is that he really loves football as he could have gone to a top lax program but chose to focus on football.

/\ That sounds on target to me . Maybe not an absolute cannon arm or greased-lightning fast relative to either the highly successful pro style QBs or the highly successful mobile QBs at the FCS level. But athletic and physical with great field vision (and of course a solid arm, good size, and good speed/mobility). He was a superior lax midfielder v the highest level lax competition. Plus he’s a winner (30-0 in his starting QB HS and PG career) from Kellenberg/ Peddie. Chesney will know where to put him on the field (not necessarily QB) if he is coming to us.

Actually he might be perfect for the offensive philosophy we have seen so far. A QB that knows how to win and wins, can make the needed play, and doesn’t turn the ball over.

Reminds me of the word on Jack Lentz. IMHO we could use a Lentz-type QB. Of course I do not know enough about the players coming to or already in the program to want them pushed aside.

I wonder if there is any overlap between recruitment for football and LAX? I recall that Rivers held an offer from Bryant for both football and LAX. I know that Perry plays football and basketball for Brown. There may have been others in our recruiting class who were being recruited for more than one sport. Perhaps schools have found a way to finagle the NCAA rules on recruiting by combining recruitment and scholarship money across more than one sport? Not sure if there are restrictions on where a recruit’s pot of scholarship money comes from.
