Per the Nichols College website, Nichols will be playing Gordon in the Commonwealth Coast Conference men's basketball championship game tomorrow at 4:30 pm in the Hart Center. Should be an exciting and entertaining game. Guessing the crowd will be at least as big as most Holy Cross games, sad to say.

I'm guessing their conference championship with its ticket to the dance will draw about the average for an HC regular season game

I was completely aware of that thread, ACTP, but this has nothing to do with WPI or MIT and confirming the details of the Nichols game at the Hart Center and IMHO deserving of its own thread.

Go Bison. Good for HC for agreeing to be the host arena.

The game is on via the Nichols Athletics website. The Hart is rocking as both schools sent student fans. The Hart Center has a great location right off the highway. Both schools have no or few red lights or stop signs on the way to the game.

I'm willing to bet that this game does not have as exciting a finish as the HC women just turned in.

Great crowd, happy to see it; but, Ashley, no one's sitting in the blues (or whatever the top bleachers are!)

Just back from the Nichols-Gordon game. Would guess at least 2,000 and probably more. HC students could learn a thing or two about supporting their basketball teams. Nichols brought 3 bus loads of kids not counting the Silver Fox that apparently took the team and cheerleaders.
Like watching an NBA game. Lots of offense and no one was afraid to shoot. Winner Nichols scored 105 points. Gordon was down something like 15-18 points with less than 2 minutes remaining and they were still cheering on their team.
Very entertaining game and I have little doubt that at least a couple of Bison could play for Holy Cross and one would be a starting guard.
Nichols has 2 players who scored 30+ points. And they actually get offensive boards.
Good to sit with Crucis and son!😊

Good to see the few of you guys enjoyed the game. I was busy doing track photography for Vermont so couldn't make it over!

#1 is DeAnte Bruton who if I recall correctly from what my son told me, was the player who was assaulted by an opposing player - sucker punched during a game - earlier in the year, scored 32 points. #4 is Marcos Echevarria who broke some NCAA record for consecutive games hitting a 3 pointer, scored 31 points.

Nope...It was Tenaglia number 00. The white kid that sits in the corner jacking up threes.

No doubt the best atmosphere at the Hart since 2007.
That was a long time ago.

Nichols brought 3 bus loads of kids not counting the Silver Fox that apparently took the team and cheerleaders. You're comparing apples and oranges. This was the league championship with a trip to the dance on the line. Sadly we haven't had that opportunity in New England since 2007 - but at that game there was great student support. I haven't been to a regular season game at Nichols to compare their students' support at a typical game to HC students. Maybe HC students could learn something from Nichols, but I wouldn't assume that by comparing a conference final to a regular season game

I have not been to a regular season Nichols game but know someone who has and their (small) place is packed and the reason they played at the Hart was it was too small for the expected crowd. I have seen a regular game or two on videostream and, yes, the students are much more excited and a much larger percentage of this small school go to their games.
It might have something to do with backing a winner, something that we've been lacking at Holy Cross.
I understand your skepticism and bias, Tom, but as much as one can say this about a subjective topic, you are wrong. And, I would like nothing better than to have Holy Cross make another PL tournament championship run and have them demonstrate that I am wrong. For now, I am not.

I would think that Nichols paid a fee to rent the facility. This would be for use and to cover staff and other overhead. Not sure on concessions. My guess would be that Holy Cross kept them as tracking the sales and CGS would be difficult, especially for a place that doesn't have to do so for any other event.

Nichols probably got a similar deal that the High School State Tournament games get. I would assume HC would get the concessions revenue. I noticed online that the video board running in front of the scorer's table had been easily re-programmed to show Nichols logos. I hope for Nichols and Gordon's sake they were able to bring some apparel for sale and stock the clothes booth that used to be the other snack bar. With 2700 fans feeling good about their Bison and Fighting Scots, good sales could have been made to help the cause. If Nichols was able to pick up a grand or two in sales, they would be that much more likely to rent the hall next year when they go for a four-peat.
I like seeing HC manage their resources prudently. It is not exactly a growth environment for small, private expensive liberal arts colleges. Hampshire College, just up the road in Amherst has only admitted a partial class for September as they weigh their future. Hampshire is not similar to HC in almost any way except it is also a small, private, expensive liberal arts college.
