One advantage that D-2 and D-3 have is that many of their away games are much more reachable than are many away games in D-1 conferences. The ludicrous realignments in D-1 may have helped TV revenue but they certainly have curtailed road trips.

Let’s face it, as long as HC remains a liberal arts college it will hurt the ability to recruit. This is not a criticism of liberal arts education, which I’m a believer in. But, not offering majors like communications, sports management or even business management must make recruiting harder.

Speaking of money, how much must a school like WV spend on travel as a member of the Big 12. I don't know how many of their sports are in the Big 12 but I believe there is a minimum number that must be part of the conference for the school to be a full-time member. We aren't talking about just football and basketball making those long trips to the plains and Texas.

Yes - I was at the first game. For some foolish reason, they moved the girls game in the middle and I didn't want to do the 1:00 /5:00 doubleheader (with extra admission if I wanted to leave and come back) Glad the 2nd semi had a good crowd. Was it SRO? They moved the Wachusett boys game to 5 so their boys and girls could play back to back. Kind of see it but the boys games should be back to back. By the eye test looked like all the seats were filled with some standees up on the walkways. As opposed to flipping the girls' games so you still have back to back guys followed by back to back girls - and Wachusett could have back to back as well.

Of course they could have played the Wachusett boys then the Wachusett girls then the Concord/Franklin girls game...wonder why they didn't do that? Wachusett and Doherty being knocked out of the boys will probably reduce the potential finals crowd. (Edit)- see that Tom already said this. I do like that they moved a lot of schools to Central. You used to have the greater Framingham teams traveling to games near or on the Cape...that didn't make a heck of a lot of sense for sure. Plus the number of schools in the North and South was much larger (still is, but not by as much). Teams would get to the state semis in some divisions having won 2 or 3 games versus 4 or even 5.

The exception(s) would be if the Big 12 doesn't sponsor a particular sport. Similar to HC hockey.

Did you go to the Doherty/Acton-Boxborough game? I was at Wachusett/Algonquin and they had to delay the start so the fans could get in. Depends on the matchup. Yes - I was at the first game. Was it SRO? moving those EMass teams to CMass has hurt. Plus without SJ there for the first time in forever, you lost the pro-SJ / anti-SJ crowd.

Cornell also offers "Agricultural Science," "Fiber Science and Apparel Design," "Food Science" (as I recall there was some chortling at HC students doing some field work in this area), "Landscape Architecture" and many more. I did not realize that Cornell is "younger" than Holy Cross being founded in 1865 and opened in 1868. I thought all Ivy schools were established pre-1800.

Gonzaga has had the same coach forever, so he is obviously a key to their run. The next HC of MBB is a critical hire. I'm not in favor of Holy Cross paying two head coaches next year, but whenever the hire is made it's critical, and if the AD hire preceeds it, that is critical as well.
Until then, fingers crossed for a good run in the PLTs and the Atlantic Hockey Tournament. I liked the Traveling Wilburys, this year I'm rooting for the Traveling Crusaders, and a PLT championship game right down the Turnpike in Boston. 😋

If you live in CMass or nearby do yourself a favor and go see Algonquin freshman Alex Karaban play. Probably the best freshman in the Worcester area in quite awhile. He'll end up at some Prep school next year or the year following which is too bad for Mass. HS hoops.

Under MIAA (MA high school athletics governing body) junior high kids can play at the high school level if the junior and senior high schools share a campus and administration. That is the set up at St Peters, but not Algonquin

Have not seen him this year but understand that he is "special"! Not sure where he was in 7th grade, but he then spent 8th grade at St. Peter Marian in Worcester and is now at Algonquin in Northboro, where I spent my entire 35 year career! Algonquin is a regional school serving the towns of Northboro and Southboro,Each town has their own K-8 programs. The last really good player coming our of Algonquin was A.J. Brodeur who eventually went to Northfield Mount Herman prep school and is now at UPenn.

Occasionally smaller high schools will get waivers to have middle school kids (not in the building) play for the high school teams. There has to be a demonstrated lack of candidates within the high school itself. Don't know how often this happens but my town got one last year.
