Looking at the box score of the White Sox being routed 12-1 today. Declan threw 2/3 of an inning 2 hits, 2 walks, 4 earned runs, Put his ERA over 11.

White Sox at Comerica Park over the weekend. I will try to attend and see if I can say hello to Declan before one of the games. Was successful in meeting with Mike Ahmed and Alex Maldonado before a Midwest League playoff game in Lansing 6-7 years ago. Mike made it to AAA before injuries derailed his career.
I hope Declan’s numbers improve. There’s a good chance with Tigers 29th in MLB in runs scored and Riley Greene on the IL again.

Looking at the box score of the White Sox being routed 12-1 today. Declan threw 2/3 of an inning 2 hits, 2 walks, 4 earned runs, Put his ERA over 11. A look at the play-by-play makes the pitching line look a little less rough. Declan came in with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth and got the third out without any runs scoring. Then started the bottom of the fifth and gave up an infield single and two walks to load the bases with no one out. Got an out on a force play at second with one run scoring. Then gave up a line drive single (not a blooper and not a bullet) to right with another run scoring and two runners left on base. He was removed from the game at that point and his successor gave up a double to allow the two inherited runners to score. Declan sat after the end of the fourth and then came back out for the next inning. He’s probably not used to going more than one inning without a break (which may have had an impact on his control in the fifth). Also, the White Sox are not a good defensive team. I tried to find a film clip on the leadoff single to short to see whether there was generous scoring. Couldn’t find it. Force play at second looked like two very slight bobbles by Sosa and Anderson eliminating a chance for the DP. All in all, faced 6 hitters with one ball hit well and no XBHs.

If you are a Ted Lasso fan you’ll recognize this actor and we should recognize the White Sox pitcher who makes an appearance near the end.

Ted’s loyal wingman and assistant coach and, if not mistaken, co-creator of Lasso. A fabulous show.

White Sox Designate Declan Cronin For Assignment By Nick Deeds | December 28, 2023 at 4:20pm CDT The White Sox announced this afternoon that they have designated right-hander Declan Cronin for assignment. The move opens up a spot on the club’s 40-man roster for left-hander Tim Hill, who the club signed to a one-year deal earlier today...
Going forward, Cronin will be exposed to waivers where any team willing to offer him a spot on their 40-man roster could claim him. While his results at the big league level and low strikeout totals in recent years surely raise the eyebrows of interested teams, the right-hander had posted a groundball rate north of 50% at every level of his professional career, including a 55.9% clip at the big league level. That proclivity for groundballs could make Cronin a depth option worth considering for clubs. Should he pass through waivers, the White Sox will have the opportunity to assign him outright to the minors where he can be retained without the use of a 40-man roster spot for the 2024 season.www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/12/white-sox-designate-declan-cronin-for-assignment.html

This is not good news at all. Many players who are ‘designated for assignment’ never hook up with another MLB team - his agent has to get busy to get some team to give him another shot (and it might mean starting at a lower level than AAA)

He was designated for assignment to take him off the 40 man roster. If nobody claims him, he'll be back at Chicago's AAA team for spring training.

Claimed by the Astros, which means they're committed to adding him to their 40-man roster... at least until someone else comes along. Might not be the last transaction of the winter for Declan, but it's great to see that a smart org values him.

It can't be a bad thing that Declan has interest from more than 1 organization. I thought more likely he'd clear and end up in minor league camp with the White Sox. Happy for him and continue to wish him the best on his journey! He continues to make both Holy Cross and Regis HS very proud.

Technically its Regis Raiders (always has been) but the school at some point picked up an owl mascot and its newspaper is called "The Owl". But teams are never introduced as "the Regis Owls". Regis hoops also has started 7-1 this year including winning 2/3 games in Tampa Jesuit's highly competitive holiday tournament. That included a huge upset over Jesuit New Orleans in the 5th Place Game, Gil Fenerty's alma mater. Jesuit had beaten Canisius Prep on a half court buzzer beater the previous day.

Houston bullpen has suffered a lot of losses from last season. There are multiple open jobs, Cronin should have a real shot with a good spring... either to make the team out of camp, or position himself for an early callup.
