Struck out the side n his second inning. Nasty slider.
Lots of Regis talk from the announcers. No HC mentions, although I missed a little of the sixth

Struck out the side n his second inning. Nasty slider. Lots of Regis talk from the announcers. No HC mentions, although I missed a little of the sixth Bronx native Michael Kay (SNY) went to Fordham and is very familiar with Regis. Emphasized the NYC school kid (from a very unlikely school) facing NY Yanks. Kay notes we just missed an unusual Regis v Horace Mann matchup with the departure of Cronin from the game. 5 strikeouts in two innings. A very wise walk to Judge.

Most impressive. Those lessons with FIDE Master Canty are one great/impressive prize.

Pedro Grifol on DC —
The good news is that with the White Sox out of contention, DC is going to get a ton of opportunities over the next two months.

5 Ks in two innings, even against the hapless Yanks, is most impressive. And that was one of the rare games where the Yankees were actually hitting the ball fairly well against the other Sox pitchers.

Seems like DC due to work today against the Brewers, especially if the starter doesn’t get to the sixth.

Declan pitched the top of the 9th with the Chisox down 5-0. Hit two batters and walked another to load the bases with no one out. Gave up an opposite field two run single to Christian Yelich for two runs. Then settled down and retired the next 3 batters in a row.

I checked the box score to see if possibly the runners on base due to being hit by a pitch might be scored the same way as runners on base due to an error. Unfortunately no, Declan got charged with two earned runs for one inning pitched.
Hopefully the three runners on base due to wildness are chalked up to control issues that can be fixed.

The ChiSox might be most interested in his “stuff”, how much velocity and movement his fastball has, how much his curve and slider break, etc, figuring, as noted above, they can work n control??

Gave up an opposite field two run single to Christian Yelich for two runs. Then settled down and retired the next 3 batters in a row. Didn’t see the first HBP. Watched the rest of the inning. The second HBP came from him going too far inside on a RH batter. Then, with the bases loaded, he gave up a line drive between third and short for the two runs. The line drive was not a scorcher but more of a medium speed drive in the right spot by a LH-batting former NL MVP. As I indicated in my first post, he then settled down. Haven’t seen his other outings but he didn’t show swing and miss stuff in this outing. But he’s struck out 6 batters in 7 innings so his stuff must be better than what he showed today.

Pitched the 7th inning last night in a 14-1 loss to the Rockies - gave up one earned run as a leadoff double eventually scored on an infield groundout

Looking at transactions... I see the Sox called up two relievers from Triple-A today that had been sent down from Chicago earlier this month. Looks like he's the victim of some bad luck since pitchers who are optioned are not eligible for recall to the MLB within 15 days of the option (hence those two going up instead of him). Sox roster was limited to 25 men due to the Tim Anderson suspension, so he was the last guy on the totem pole when Jimenez returned from the paternity list. Now that the roster is back at 26, they couldn't add him due to that odd rule. Hopefully he gets another chance in September when rosters expand and his 15 days in the minors are up.

The rule isn't odd as you don't want teams sending pitchers down after using them and then bringing in a fresh arm the next day.

Not sure why the rule is 10 days for position players and 15 for pitchers, but you're right that makes sense.

What do the rosters expand to in September now? Used to be up to 40 but I don't think it's that many anymore. I don't think too many teams ACTUALLY carried 40 under the old rules but they were allowed to for that month.

Rosters until 8/31 and during the post season are limited to 26 with no more than 13 pitchers (except in the case of a double header or completion of a suspended game with a regularly scheduled game on that same day when the limit is increased to 27). On 9/1, the limit is increased to 28 (a mandatory increase) with no more than 14 pitchers.
