As has been noted elsewhere, HoopDirt is often full of it. Suspect we'll see other names, from other sources, as the week goes on.

I’m not being hyperbolic when I say the Crossports community would do a better job than Parker and Blossom finding the next head coach, basing this solely on the names Dirt has mentioned.
I will give them the benefit of the doubt that this list is both incomplete and inaccurate.

My guess is that Dave McLaughlin from Dartmouth is the Ivy coach being mentioned.

Young, good recruiters, assume with their backgrounds they can coach - sounds good to me. Maybe, this new hire will instill more enthusiasm in the program. LoveHC Recruiting is not the answer. Look at BU — they have been recruiting at an extremely high level for the PL, but haven’t accomplished anything because their coach can’t actually, you know, COACH. We need a coach who is capable of developing players and putting them into schemes that create advantages. If we’re just looking for enthusiasm, we should have just kept Milan Brown. Fingers crossed that Blossom is better than this first (unofficial, unsubstantiated) list of names would suggest.

I was trying to get myself bought in on Martin, but after looking through his KenPom page there is very, very little to be excited about.
In particular, there are no areas where his teams are consistently good and his non-conference schedules are extremely weak. If he was playing any type of challenging schedule his record would be even worse.
Three straight sub-.500 coaches would be such a poor decision.

We can always start rumors and see who picks up on it. I've been doing that with limited success. Seriously, it's better if we hear nothing. If everyone knows the other names that are really in the mix, the new guy has automatic comparisons

...as well as automatic opposition.

...as well as automatic opposition. automatic yes... unless he has a +600 head coaching record against the upper levels of D-1 [apparently we passed on one] OR he brings in a top recruit, 6'9+, with the one schollie available. need a creditable leak soon

Marquette beat writer reporting on Twitter that Brett Nelson is the new head coach.
Since we also got Fr. K from Marquette (by way of Harvard and the Jesuit Divinity School), I'm hopeful this works out as well for HC as Fr. K did.

Seems like it calls for a new thread...

Temporarily Locking this thread since we have a new head coach. Moved all posts after Ray's above to the Welcome Brett Nelson thread.
Will unlock tomorrow morning in case anyone wants to discuss the search itself.

I hope this hire works out but was hoping we would go outside the box and not use the same template we've used to hire the last three coaches. I would have preferred a D-2 or 3 head coach who had built a successful program. Interesting that the last three hires for the leagues flagship program came from D-3 schools.

Successful coaches can come from all types of backgrounds. Let’s hope Blossom has found one here.

I think Cross fans are going to like your new AD. He reached out to other coaches in the area to get their thoughts on the candidates and wanted to call back and lay into some candidates that did not get the job. Thankfully he was advised not to do that. Some candidates when told they were not the choice had a very negative reaction to the news.
