Only 1 senior getting playing time. A guard, his replacement for next year may already be on the team roster. The tall Stag guards may be a challenge for HC on Tuesday.

I was hoping Maidoh would be a good match up with Verbeek as neither seems to have much heft. However, he only played 6 minutes (he did start) against the 62-60 loss to UMass and averages under 12 minutes a game.
UMass report:

Any chance students know about the first home game and will make the trip up the hill?

I love that "trip up the hill." A journey of 1,000 miles begins with the first step.
I suspect that young Brett Nelson will do some student communication/cheerleading to encourage the kids to skip a couple of library hours. I hope they realize it is not all uphill. After the game they can go back downhill.

Legit question to any current students here, or relatively recent grads (HC16): does the school or athletic dept send email/text reminders to the student body on gamedays?

This has the makings of a competitive contest They do appear to be a bit larger than the Crusaders. They lost a close one to UMass, we lost a close one to UNH. Advantage Stags, but HC is at home to begin the Nelson Era. Advantage Saders.

I understand the whole "three games in March " narrative that some espouse, but I think we really need to win this game to forestall a long losing streak to start this new team's new season

As I recall, it was “4 games in March”.

As I recall, it was “4 games in March”. Really? Obviously, in the specific instance of 2016 it was 4 games. In general, the saying has been "3 games in March" in reference to the regular season not mattering.

Yes, I was referring only to HC in 2016

Legit question to any current students here, or relatively recent grads (HC16): does the school or athletic dept send email/text reminders to the student body on gamedays? I was attending every game as a member of the band, so I certainly wasn't paying close attention for game day emails. We did get them for big games or for promotions, but we'd get inundated with so many emails, it was easy for others to get lost in the shuffle. In a week I'd probably get somewhere between 50-100 emails for various activities around campus for things I wasn't a part of and had no interest in. Now add on emails for class, band, intramurals, and other activities I participated in, and a picture starts to form of how easily those emails get missed for the average student. The only texts we ever got from the school were for campus emergency messages. Fortunately, mine were all test or weather related.

The 182 points we yielded in the last two games is the most we've given up (excludes OT games) in back to back games going back through at least 2003. The faster pace of play and inability to stop our opponents (Ken Pom has us with #315 defense) combined to create that outcome. Of course, we know the season is young and that we'll make adjustments so the first two games (especially since one was against a Top 20 team) may not be indicative of how the season will play out. Fairfield has played at a very slow pace in its first two games--maybe that will help

Thank you to you and your fellow students in the band, cheerleaders and dance team. You all made a positive contribution to the game experience and the flatness of the atmosphere was evident during vacation periods when you couldn't be there. I'm humming "Sweet Caroline" in the Band's honor as I type.

I know the D is struggling (to say the least) so far; and all these points scored are kind of unsettling to us. But, if we are going to establish an identify of attack, attack, attack, I think it needs to be full steam ahead. With their size on the perimeter, I'd rather make them have to worry about finding RW in transition defense, and worry about slowing down Druzi, than having our guys have to work to find open looks in the half court. It would be better if we had more than 8 healthy bodies to accomplish this.
Just a few more stops....and a few more rebounds when we need them.

Only semi on topic, but precipitation in the area is now predicted to taper off by mid afternoon. Assuming roads are properly salted so that tonight's deep freeze doesn't produce a lot of black ice, getting to the game should not be a major issue except maybe for our real road warriors travelling greater distances.

I guess this as good a place as any to call everyone's attention to a nice (and lengthy) article in today's Boston Pravda Globe regarding a long and deep friendship between BN and UMass HC Matt McCall. Front page of the Sports section, lower right. A nice read.
I think we've got a good one, and I'm optimistic for the future, including "being better in February than we are today".
