Maybe I'm mistaken, but for the first 2 games it appeared to me that there was an ok number of students attending; the number of locals might be spiking down even further. There were a couple of small groups that were being vocal from time to time. I give HC some credit for bringing back a microphone guy to try to generate some noise, although his attempt to start a GO! CROSS! GO! chant ended abruptly as soon as he stopped chanting. I actually started feeling bad for the players to have to play so poorly in front of their fellow students. Wished the band coulda been there though.

Wished the band coulda been there though. Many of the band members are musicians first and sports fans second. There was some world renown organist doing a performance in the chapel last night. I think the band was there.

Not sure who's drawing well right now. Vermont. Compared to most in the area, true 2700 out if 3200 seats

Tom, Were they there to accompany an organist, perhaps with the band dance?

Band is a student activity - i.e., they are all volunteers. Beginning yesterday, the band had potential to play for
Tuesday - men's basketball Wednesday - women's basketball Friday - men's basketball Friday - men's hockey Saturday - football - which is basically a full day commitment
Throw in 2-3 rehearsals for the marching band in a typical week, many members have jobs on campus that they schedule based on the marching band rehearsal schedule during football season, and that pesky school work a week before Thanksgiving break ...
I think you can cut the band members a little slack for missing a couple of the games this week. Hopefully they'll be there Friday night.

I do. My post was sent in jest. (Did you see the emoji?) I appreciate all that they do for HC spirit! Their presence raises the level of an event with their music and enthusiasm.

Hopefully the crowd is better for Harvard. But everyone that was at that game last night new every shot Northeastern took was going in. We could of scored 70 and still lost by 30. Think bout that? How do you even begin to run offensive plays down 50. Thats why we saw a lot of forced shots.

HCBN is a big fan of Joel Osteen. Perhaps he can get him to give our boys some divine intervention!

New England tourney would be cool, but would never happen. Couldn't even do the Coaches vs Cancer one day charity event because BC didn't want to participate anymore. With so many tourneys throughout the US, and even abroad now, the low and mid majors of New England would rather participate in those than be locked into a local tourney. It is interesting that there are now eight D1 schools in Massachusetts with Merrimack upgrading, and they play in seven different conferences. I remember when Jim Calhoun first started at UConn, he played every in state opponent (Yale, Hartford, CCSU, Fairfield, etc), and vowed to do so as long as he was there and they wanted to play UConn. Then UConn became big and played a more national schedule filled with prominent in season tournaments, invitationals, and prominent home and homes, and those in state games quickly went away. Lowell hosted a tourney last weekend with Merrimack, Jacksonville, and Dartmouth as all four teams played against each other over three days.

I just know I have heard many question where's the band? Since I know the schedules both my kids (and the other band members) have had to manage over the last 7 years, I do think everyone appreciates what they add to the games but I'm not sure they appreciate what it takes to do t it. And this week in particular, has a boat load of demands on their time!

This team is what is....2 transfers, loss of their best player to graduation, new coach etc etc....they are going to struggle at times this season.

Last night game was just one of those nights....When a team hits 70% of their shots there isn't much one can do..I'd bet Coach Nelson doesn't even show the film to the team, just move on and look ahead...Unfortunately, there will be night like last night when everything goes bad to a very young team..Copeland played pretty well in the loss, he looked decent on D...I think even the Northeastern players were amazed at the shooting in the first half.... On to Harvard.....

I think our attendance figures are a bit inflated which is probably the norm for many low and mid-majors. I attended both home games and I would say attendance at each was in the 750-900 range.

I understand and agree with all that Bob says here, but to me, the total absence of a school band at one of the games of HC’s supposedly premier sport says almost as much about the state of HC basketball as the final score of the game. The difference in energy level at the Hart Center with and without the band present is very, very large. Would it be possible to bring in a local high school pep band for games when our real band needs to take a night off?

This Friday night at the Hart, there are overlapping games at the rink (men vs Sacred Heart) and the court.

He might be the silver lining tonight. I was watching the first half replay and Copeland played some aggressive man on Roland when he was guarding him straight up and Roland only scored a few times on him during that stretch . ( I know it is hard to believe but if you watch the taping and just isolate your eyes on Copeland you could see it)

(yes, the northeastern game is that bad that this is my only comment. once in a lifetime kind of bad. let's hope, at least).

Yes, you could probably cobble together a tournament with very low majors like Merrimack and Lowell. I was more referring to a potential local tourney with BC,UMass,Harvard, etc. Harvard especially likes playing national opponents all over the country, especially in the SF Bay area where they play OOC frequently. UMass, NU, BC, etc generally participate in some in season event every year which constitutes a few of their "non bracketed" OOC games, and allows them to play a couple national opponents. It's just pretty hard from a logistical standpoint these days to set up a tourney between each of the higher profile local teams especially since some of them have little interest in playing the others. I am shocked that the Big 5 is still a Round Robin among the Philly schools. We will see if that continues next year when the Big East goes to 20 games with UConn's arrivalthus limiting OOC scheduling for Villanova who likes playing high profile OOC games. New England tourney would be cool, but would never happen. Couldn't even do the Coaches vs Cancer one day charity event because BC didn't want to participate anymore. I'd be all for a local tournament in Worcester. Holy Cross, Maine/UNH/Vermont, Brown/Dartmouth, and Fairfield/Quinnipiac etc would be good. Worcester would be a centralized location and could give a slight boost to the local economy. They could even have two doubleheaders, men's and women's. Two games at noon and 2:30, and two more at 5:30 and 8:00.
