Last year we played football against Lafayette and basketball vs UNH Two L's And annoying that UNH is not a bad drive that I normally would have attended. IIRC UNH was an afternoon game, Amazing that we beat UNH in football and lost to them in basketball.

Not sure how a 6 day event held at 3 different sites qualifies as an exempt event but I guess it isn’t that important in the grand scheme of things.

Back in the day, we would go to the Rainbow Classic by sailboat in the Pacific (after hitching our way to the west coast); we'd use dog sleds to get to the Kodak Classic...both ways. And we loved it. . Seriously, not a big fan of these so called tourneys. One of first things I used to do when I got my Street and Smith's was check out the pages with all the holiday tournaments.

Getting my Street and Smith's Preview edition was a big event for those of us who followed football and basketball.

Yeah, holiday tournaments are from a bygone era, unless you count the ones like Rutgers and the ones Thanksgiving week.
In some ways, makes more sense than the old way...the teams go hard until exam break, shake off the rust with a game or two before jumping into league play. And league play seems to be starting before New Year's in a lot of cases.

Sounds like we might be playing UMass in hoops this year. Easy road trip for many of us.

Until they lose to us once again 😂
Would like a match-up in football
A real long shot and Hail Mary but perhaps the economic cost of the virus will result in a move for NE schools to recreate the ECAC North for major and minor sports. It would be the easiest way to recapture some of our history and tradition and elevate all of our programs.
Wishful thinking on a Wednesday evening in -what month is this?

I don't know what month it is but we've had March winds around here since, well March. ECAC North sounds good but despite the darn travel, has the Patriot League developed a brand which has elevated HC from many other private colleges? It's not the IL or the little IL, but is membership a net positive for Holy Cross?

I think PL is a league that is fine for what/where we are
If you want to transform sports at HC the ECAC might be a vehicle, although highly unlikely without real economic pressures.
If schools don’t reopen in the fall you might see significant conference redesign to cut costs.
I wouldn’t expect arenas, ballparks and stadiums being filled with fans before 2022, but there isn’t enough data or experience with the virus to make that or any other predictions-yet

In this hypothetical situation, what other conferences would HC actually fit into outside the PL?

Not sure anything if we look at current structure But If unusual times continue look for creativity and cost cutting

A New England conference probably makes too much sense for it to happen. I don’t see BC giving up the ACC. The rest don’t have the huge football influence that BC has, (maybe huge isn’t the right word but I’d say football drives the bus at the Heights), so maybe it isn’t as far fetched as it first sounds. I guess it depends on just how much the pandemic changes the landscape.

We along with other groups known for large convening don’t anticipate a full return/ participation until 2023 with an outside shot of smaller events in 21 and modest increases in 22
If that becomes reality, and none of us have a clue right now if those are the right assumptions, imho it will impact schools and sports as well.
