Wow you don't love it but you don't hate it. Way to take a stand. Meaning I would have loved Northwestern in the Chicago-area more....UNH played and beat the Wildcats there relatively recently. It's a good game but it's not at the level of Navy, Cuse and BC FBS games. UNH beat Northwestern in 2006 so 14 years ago

The goal is to continue our upward trajectory and have competitive games with FBS teams. IMO, a competitive game would be within 3 TDS or even an upset. Our rising talent level will hopefully achieve these goals. Good marketing for the football program.

Are we being paid for this game with UNI?

Yes. My guess is those MAC games represent the Sweet Spot between a nice payout and game that could potentially be competitive and even winnable.

What's their average attendance and what's their average ticket price? Probably expenses only.

What's their average attendance and what's their average ticket price? Probably expenses only. Attendance last year averaged 8,500 per game, less than half of what the Huskies drew in some prior seasons. Ticket prices are stated as $34 to $53 for mediocre tickets in the visitors section for a home game versus OOC URI in 2020

Love to see more games against MAC teams in both football and basketball; games where HC has to take it up a notch....but are not impossible to win.

Perhaps a balance for HC would be alternating FBS games. Play New England "rivals" UConn and UMess along with some MAC teams we could potentially beat or be competitive and still receive a good payout. Then of course we play BC and the odd game against Syracuse, Penn State (!), Pitt, NU, or West Point.

I wouldn’t be so sure on both counts - URI was very good in 2018 but did fall off in ‘19 - UNH has been better than us over the last decade - (last year’s win was fluky) yes I hope we’re on a par with them going forward

Easy trip and a winnable game vs a “1-A”

Just looking at Northern Illinois' future schedules (because what else am I supposed to do these days? ) ....we are actually in with some pretty good company. They have games with Michigan, Notre Dame, Vandy, BC et. al. in the next few seasons. They are at BC in 2023 (we also play BC in 2023) to get an early scout. Interestingly, they are at UMass after we play them in 2025.

Shows that a sports board can be entertaining when it is run without taste or standards and it allows such ignorant, bigoted drivel. I'll bet that some HC fans , when hearing we had scheduled UNI gasped..."Who?" Hardly a name that is well known (like HC opponents BC, Navy, or Syracuse).

I hope someone prints that thread and sets it aside for the FB bulletin board five years from now - after our sixth straight PLC and a third straight deep run in the FCS playoffs. Of course, if my prognostication comes to pass, NIU will likely have found a reason to cancel the game, and we'll have booked someone much better ($$$).

It would be a shame if someone were to come back to these messages after the Saders walk in and win. Would be classic to see those reactions after such kind words about our football program.

UNI is the University of Northern Iowa, a FCS power. Would have been a decent matchup w/HC; but one that probably would never get scheduled because of travel costs.

OK, not UNI...NIU. Is there a huge difference? I thought of it as similar to CHC vs HCC.

Per US News, NIU is the 293rd best National University in the US. Northern Iowa is the #20 Regional University in the Midwest. So you could see why NIU fans would have some attitude.
