There is a lot of optimism about the 8 new guys we have coming to HC in the Fall. We spend a lot of time talking about other offers but this info is buried in threads all over the place so I thought I'd consolidate it for the whole roster here. Might be good to track future classes this way in one thread as well. Some of these offers might have been off the table by the time of the HC commit and others might be unknown so this isn't perfect but hopefully interesting and relatively accurate. Verbalcommits.com is my source and I have not made any effort to verify or alter their info for this purpose. They did not have a link to Faw's other offers so I had to use another source. I added verbal commitment month and year in case anyone is interested in that. Guys who commit earlier obviously have less time to tack on additional offers. To give another way of looking at the pace of the turnover over our roster, of the non-seniors, Ryan Wade was the earliest to commit and that was 12 months ago. I was also reminded during my research that Faw and Butler visited together and committed within a week of each other in August 2016. Glad they're both still here to lead the new guys and start the process of getting us back where we all want to be. Might be fun to look back in a few years and see how each of the new guys turned out relative to offers. If history is any guide, other offers won't be super-predictive of what kinds of players they turn out to be at HC. Great work. The bond between Faw and Butler must be tremendous after four years together starting in August, 2016 when they both chose Holy Cross over Navy and stayed true to their school together when everyone else from their six player class bailed. What a great senior leadership duo as role models for the incoming eight.

Thanks, 92.
The collection of offers for the 4 guys Nelson signed in the normal signing period in the Fall is likely the best in 10+ years, if not longer.
The Beans/Stevens/Obeysekere/Goens class led by Beans (MAC, American, others) and Stevens (Bucknell, Siena, others) was probably the last group on that level.
Pretty dang good considering Nelson was hired on July 3rd.

BBC hope they play at a higher level than that group.

Martindale is the most promising talent since Malcolm, imho, but likely will start his career faster. Would be surprised if he got less than 30mpg on the wing, right out of the gate.
RJ gets the keys to the car, hope he can drive responsibly.

Do not know if RJ had definite offers, but he had an official visit to Appalachian State. Schools do not often extend official visits to players they have not offered. Presbyterian was also interested and some Coach from there was at the same game that one of our coaches was at in early January.

Possibly, but two of the three returning regulars are wings also, as well as multiple other freshmen. Maybe some minutes could be at the 4, where he often played at WA. Less crowded there.

From the limited clips I saw of Judson and Mike, they both appear to have the ability to impact the game without the ball in their hands all the time, which should help the overall flow of the offense.

While this group is probably stronger than Carmody brought in, just based on other offers, it does not appear that Nelson has come close to what Bob Chesney has accomplished in his short tenure. I know, apples to oranges, right?

Chesney had an advantage of being able to sell his past head coaching success, Nelson signed his guys with perhaps less head coaching success to sell than any other coach in America. The more the team lost the more the W.A. guys kept coming to games. That says something for Nelson. Their attitude as I recall is "Let's build something special together!"
Having said that, thank God for Coach Chesney today and every day.

I wonder what Nelson would do with 63 scholarships? Let's try to keep comparisons in the same ballpark if we can (and thanks to bison for the correction).

Nelson has been on the job for 10 months, and inherited a significantly worse hand than Chesney.

# = doing post-grad year at Service Academy prep school (MAPS or NAPS), so date of commitment does not match up with other players. In other words, a commitment in Fall of 2018 would be normal and a commitment in Spring of 2019 would be late. - - - - -
The interesting case in the names above is Trae Broadnax. His father is Horace Broadnax, PG at Georgetown with Patrick Ewing, who has been head coach at Savannah State for 15+ years. Trae got offers from both Georgia and Florida State just after he finished his sophomore year in high school - very early for someone other than a super-star. After that, he got more offers - but none from major schools. And he got no more offers after July following his junior year. He did not commit during the early signing period (November of senior year), did not commit during his senior season, and did not commit during the main part of the late signing period which starts April 15th. Then in May, he finally committed to Navy. It is unclear why he didn't commit at any of the normal times and also unclear how many offers - if any - were still on the table by May of his senior year. It's impossible to tell, although I think it is very likely that the offers from Florida State and Georgia were ones he could not have accepted and were off the table by the end of his junior season. In any event, he is now red-shirting at NAPS, and it will be interesting to see how his career progresses.
