I think Heinsohn once had something stupid like 50+ rebounds in a game and he wasn't afraid to shoot

I think Tommy H had his big rebound game against bc, and I think it was 47 rebounds. So I'll go with 47 rebounds and 29 points against bc in 1955

Here's something interesting. In terms of an unbreakable record, Wilt's 55 rebounds in a game is probably less likely to be broken versus his 100 points in a game, not that I see that happening any time soon. The closest anyone's come to Wilt's 100 points is Kobe Bryant's 81 in any era. The closest anyone has come to Wilt's 55 rebounds this century is 31. Plus, of course, it takes FEWER baskets now to get 100 points and it takes just as many rebounds as it did to get 55. And, more importantly, there are FEWER missed shots in a typical game these days.

Any more guesses, Ky ? You were high on rebounds, very low on points After I made my guess I checked the records so I have to head to the sidelines on this one now. This is a great question and the answer (total points & boards) is astounding

No one is even sniffing the jock strap of 55 rebounds. That record is like someone breaking Old Hoss Radbourn of the Providence Grays record of like 70 complete games in a season. Or to go (slightly) less extreme Cy Young’s 511 wins. Dennis Rodman’s career high was what, 32. And he’s the modern definition of rebounder. I can only remember personally watching one NBA game where someone got 30 and it was Kevin Love against the Knicks when he was with the T-Wolves. What was it about the old style of play that made high rebound totals so common compared to today?

Combined with more shots. In the 1960-61 season, the average NBA team took 109+ shots per game; in 2019-20, the average team took just 88 shots.

Answer to the Trivia Tommy H. had 51 points and 42 rebounds vs BC on March 1, 1956 I think he sold tickets also That's a truly amazing performance and I can see why in the past some have suggested that as the greatest single game performance by a HC player in any sport. You gave to figure he had a ton of offensive rebounds and scored off them

Can't believe some folks have 10,000 more posts than us. I should have retired a few years earlier! A few years ago an email exchange between Tom Brady and a high school friend was leaked. In it the friend noted Brady was behind Peyton Manning in most career stats. Brady responded that his pliability would allow him to play several years longer than Manning and he would overtake him. You are Brady in this analogy. You will outlast the wimpy early retirees.

You both have made good contributions on a regular basis. That is also true of others. What about "early retirees" who are not wimpy...how will you overtake them? I am interested both in your plan and why the number is so important.

Back to Heinsohn In ‘55-56 he averaged 21.1 rpg, Togo’s 16.3 is second on the all time HC list Tommy’s scoring Ave that season was 27.4 The 42 rebounds vs BC is the third highest in NCAA history The 21.1 rpg in ‘56 is 23rd in NCAA history, just ahead of Bill Russell’s 21.0

I am interested both in your plan and why the number is so important. What I meant by "retiring" was that I stopped working in 2018. If I had done it when I hit 65 and not 66 1/2, perhaps I'd have more posts! I'm sure that COVID or no COVID, I've still posted a heck of a lot more since I ended my career.
