I know I can check this and will do so, but was just wondering if the two Toms, heinsohn and Gola, both tremendous college rebounders and scorers, came up against each other in college?

Their careers overlapped for two seasons, but unfortunately never faced each other

"What I meant by "retiring" was that I stopped working in 2018. If I had done it when I hit 65 and not 66 1/2, perhaps I'd have more posts! I'm sure that COVID or no COVID, I've still posted a heck of a lot more since I ended my career." As have I (when I retired for the third time). Thanks for the explanation. I also posted for years while I was working.

I’m kind of surprised that all us dyed-in-the-wool HC sports fans didn’t have that 51/42 stat line already permanently emblazoned in our memories. It probably will be now though.

Doing some research, details from the 50s are hard to find, five players have 40 or more rebounds. One definitely did not score 50 points in that same game . The other three’s points totals are not mentioned, but neither was the prolific scorer that Tommy was. So I think it is safe to say that he is the only college player to score 50+ with 40+ rebounds in one game.

The numbers I think of in reference to HC hoops are 46/15.....

You both have made good contributions on a regular basis. That is also true of others. What about "early retirees" who are not wimpy...how will you overtake them? I am interested both in your plan and why the number is so important. I have no plan and rather than seeking to be the most prolific poster I caution myself to STFU once in a while. But then I express another opinion anyway.🙂

Jim McCaffrey. 46 points,15 Assists, vs. Iona in 1985. Remember that game. Iona went 26-5 on the season, an NCAA team. HC was having a bad year with a lot of turmoil (enough said about that for now). And, Iona was coached by Pat Kennedy, Joe's dad.

I think (hope I'm not wrong) there is another piece of trivia associated with that Iona team, if anyone would like to take a shot at it

Some current or recent HC player's dad played for them? Definitely after Hamilton graduated, so not him.

Nope. Hint: it involves another team in addition to Iona.

This is why I should never ask trivia questions - I had thought Iona was the last team to beat Louisville on their way to winning a national championship. Well, they did....in 1980.

Although I was quite a rebounder in intramurals, I never squared off against Heinsohn. Not sure what Gola has to do with it, but I never played against anyone from LaSalle

I mentioned Gola because, like Heinsohn, he was a tremendous rebounder and scorer (20 points 19 boards) at an east coast college and I thought it might be interesting to see how they did if they ever played against each other.

I was going for the cheap laugh assuming the two Tom's were Heinsonhn and I and Gola was just some after thought

I'm not sure what it says about me - other than I've known Tom for almost 40 years - but I knew exactly what he meant in that post.
