If you look back, as usual, I think I might have been the guy who derailed this thread talking about injuries playing the big boys. No, ACTP and hoops, I am not going to apologize because this is the nature of Crossports.
I am genetically inclined to throwing out topics or subjects to generate discussion and/or debate.
That said, I have been one to argue when some said we shouldn’t play BC or Syracuse because our little guys (I’m being sarcastic here and putting words in the mouths of others) might get hurt that that is baloney. It might have been true 10-15 years ago but not now. Our linemen aren’t usually 30 pounds lighter and I can’t see Dobbs, our other LBs and DBs being greatly outsized nor our RBs or WRs. My earlier post was really Devils Advocating.
As noted many times, one of our biggest DL got hurt years ago because a smaller GU player cut him low from behind and wasn’t a size or speed issue. Good for him that Don got to play at THE Ohio State University.
The issue for me is not the threat of injury but just getting humiliated on the scoreboard as I like at least a puncher’s chance for a win.

If size differential were such a factor then the typical 200 pound running back would be injured when being tackled by a 235 pound linebacker, and those tackles are made 25 times a game. The same holds true for 180 pound receivers, right? Of course, players get hurt all the time in this collision sport, but I just don't see the issue being that dire when teams "play up".
I think the Power 5 players may be 5-10% faster and maybe 5% bigger by position than FCS players. I didn't play college football (or HS) and it's always good to get feedback from those who did, so maybe one will weigh in on this matter

Might be wrong but injuries in football seem to be less in the upper body in part due to all the padding (notable exception is head injuries from helmet to helmet contact) but mostly knees and ankles which are less protected and sometimes those injuries happen w/o any contact at all just from the field, cutting sharply, etc.

While I believe only 63 can offfcially be in uniform, I’m hearing that the whole team will be traveling to Fordham for Saturday’s game. A good move considering the PL title is on the line.

By definition, football being a contact sport, injuries are part of the game. But your comment above might make a case that it isn't worth playing teams like Nebraska where the likelihood of serious injury might more than offset the $$$$ paid out. I'm fine with HC playing Army, Navy, UMass, UConn, BC but probably not Nebraska, Alabama and the like. At least not yet! Wheres the data that says playing better teams increase liklihood of injury? Ryan Greenhagen, Fordhams stud LB, had 30 tackles against Nebraska and then suffered season-ending injury against...Lafayette. But I agree I'd rather take a smaller payday to play against teams we have at least a punchers chance against. Ryan Greenhagen 31 Tackles against NebraskaYeah, he was a beast that day and got a ton of publicity for him and the program. I generally agree about the puncher's chance comment but have to tell you that the Nebraska trip was absolutely amazing. With about 5 minutes left in the first half we were out playing them overall. The second half they just rolled us but the Nebraska fans couldn't believe how well we were playing them. The players loved playing in front of 93,000 and the Fordham fans had an amazing time. I wouldn't have traded us opening that way for anything. It really was fantastic. My bigger concern with starting like that was that our other games were against FBS Florida Atlantic and then two pre-season top 20 teams in Monmouth and Stony Brook. We just had no breather until Wagner and I was also worried we just wouldn't know how to win or would have our confidence shot. Luckilyc we came up big against Stony Brook and have won out (sometimes ugly) since. Net-net I view that 4 game opening stretch as a positive for us

Absent either Greenhagen or DeMorat I don’t think you’re winning that one. SBU rushed for about 200 yards even with Greenhagen doing his thing. HC may run well in Greenhagen’s absence.

Some thoughts for each team to be successful on Saturday Not sure who wins but I don't think it will be close
Fordham Control the emotions Pass for 350 plus Rush enough to keep the defense honest Defense force Holy Cross to punt 3 + times Turnovers and penalties Have the last possession of each half for DeMorat to put points on the board
Holy Cross Field position Ball control Tighter pass coverage, without contact, early in the routes to take away DeMorat’s quick release and give the D a chance to generate pressure Special teams score or set up a score Turnovers and penalties Control the emotions and stay focused

Great analysis and agree ball control is needed to win this game. Merrimack and Harvard were two teams that threw it well and that did not work out great. If we get behind too much that will be a problem offense has shown the inability to score when pressed to pass ball. Run ball, use up play clock and shorten the game. Defense will ball out but if they play over 34 minutes it gets tricky. 31-21 HC wins if we control time of possession. Defense will put 6 on board and NG will have a big game.

I watched the NBC NY forecast. Plenty of rain Friday. Chance of pop up showers and/or thunder on Saturday but not a complete washout by any means.

Already decided I will watch on ESPN+ rather than jinx the Crusaders with my physical presence.
Per weather channel.com for the Bronx on Saturday:
high: 60 low: 39
chance of rain 58%
Too early to get hourly detail on my iPhone but does say:
"partly cloudy early followed by increasing clouds with showers developing later in the day. High around 60F. Winds SSW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 60% (yes, I recognize that the detailed read out is different than the summary by 2%)."

Nothing weather-related will ever beat Bob Fouracre's Holy Cross Football Show back in the day.
One of the kids who were guests that week clearly had stage fright and wouldn't say sh*t if his mouth was full of it. So, Bob asked him "what do you think of the fine weather you've had for your games this year?"
