From a casual glimpse. It seems the offense has been out of sync. Hard to shoot three's when you're not getting the ball in rhythm. Obviously, they have not spent much time together on the floor. Definitely a work hopefully in progress. D is aggressive and seems to be ahead of the O in development. I am hoping for improvement from these young inexperienced players as the season progresses. "O Little Star of Bethlehem..." I will reiterate what NAD said. Many passes were off the mark making for "not clean" catches. If it takes a second or so to reset after a slightly off target pass, that extra moment can be the difference in a defender getting into position.

And then you have the one Luc passed into the stands.

Especially when you consider that this team has only one player with outstanding one-on-one skills.....and he is a 5-11 freshman. Gates is excellent one on one. Three on one, not so much. We miss Butler and Faw.

True, we need all five players on the floor to be scoring threats and constantly working to get open, set screens, etc. to take the pressure off Gates when he tries to go through three front court players to score.

NAD Do you know why Gates played fewer minutes than usual, including none at the end ? Gates just isn’t healthy. I’m trying not to shout this from the rooftops but He and RJ were suppose to really carry the load this year and unfortunately they are both really banged up. You can clearly see G is really struggling with his explosiveness and jumping. It doesn’t help that he gets doubled team on every post touch as well. No more Matt Faw so automatic double team. RJ obviously isn’t himself as well…can’t change direction and push the pace and knock down open shots like he showed last season. We could really use a stretch 5 to go with Gates ability. Lewis is probably not ready defensively and strength wise BUT how about BN give him a look…what would that hurt?!

Even if he is a real liability on defense, it’s not like he is going to make the overall defense that much worse.

I know Townsel was getting over the flu or something like that.

Don't know of any inside info, but he definitely was in uniform, and warmed up before both halves.

Townsel was dressed too, but his illness mentioned.
This coach is one stubborn SOB if the kid's in good standing (team rules, academics, that sort of thing) and he insists on playing 7 guys.

I thought that was interesting. Especially with pace HC likes to play at, plus some guys in foul trouble. I don't remember Luc coming out at all

Perhaps a Pomeroy subscriber could post his pace of play stat for HC

That’s my guess at least.

BN doesn't like height advantages?

Height becomes a disadvantage when the other team is running circles around the big guy.

Perhaps a Pomeroy subscriber could post his pace of play stat for HC We don't play fast. We do frequently have token pressure with 2 or 3 guys in the backcourt. More about eating a little shot clock than getting turnovers, but it does require more energy on D than just falling back into the half court D. If you want to have back court pressure for a whole game, seven is a pretty short rotation.
