How many years does it take to build a rivalry ?

Not that many when your game is often the defacto league championship game, one team is the closest geographically to the other (Fordham has closer league teams but we don't), both schools are Jesuit, etc.
Having said that all the PL teams are long time rivals of a sort. The PL isn't a bus station like many conferences these days so you get to play the same schools year after year.

With Monmouth leaving, the MAAC membership number drops to 10. Not sure if they intend to remain at 10, or if they are looking to add to protect against other potential defections. I would assume that Bryant would be at the top of the list of adds if they intend to expand.

How many years does it take to build a rivalry ? Years are important but probably down a ways on the list. HC hoops has been playing PL teams twice a year for 32 years and outside of the Willard/Flannery era, nothing close to a rivalry has developed.

Colgate or Fordham as the football rival? I would guess Fordham because of the Jesuit connection and our shared history.

I would assume that Bryant would be at the top of the list of adds if they intend to expand. Zero chance Bryant would make the ill-advised decision to go to the MAAC. The rumor is that Bryant may be headed to the America East with football going to the newly merged Big South/Ohio Valley football conference effective 2023.

Fordham is the bigger rival for a couple reasons: 1) Colgate would likely consider Cornell a bigger football rival than Holy Cross 2) We have an actual trophy for our series with Fordham HC @ Colgate is going to be a BIG GAME next year. Colgate had a sneaky 2nd place finish last year in conference and will be looking to avenge the beatdown we dealt them downtown.

No we don't. There is an enormous difference between occasionally playing a former rival and having a real rivalry with said opponent. We don't have one in hoops and maybe we have one in football. I will bite. Who is this football rival ? Colgate

I will bite. Who is this football rival ? Colgate I was thinking Fordham instead of Colgate. I think there is more overlap between the two Jesuit schools in terms of applicants, alums who live and work near each other, etc. It is a shame the hoops rivalry died a long time ago. I would say Colgate is a rival but not a strong one.

The PL for football is closer but I would rather keep the flexibility of five OOC games per year than add Bryant to the league.

Wut?
You got a better chance of getting zapped by lightning and hitting the lottery on the same day than you do of ever seeing Bryant getting so much as a sniff from the pL.

I have driven thru the Bryant Campus and didn't see any Ivy growing on the walls. Isn't that required for membership in Ivy Lite.

So it sounds like we should be getting ready for Bryant to join the pL…. You have a better chance of getting zapped by lightning and hitting the lottery on the same day than you do of seeing the Paw Sox leaving Rhode Island for Worc.

Can say the same about the chances of your favorite clueless coach posting a 20 win season.

The Bryant campus is more akin to a modern office park than a typical college campus. A lot of that has to do with its existence only dating back to the early 70's with much of it being built much later in more recent years. I will give the school some credit as its campus is certainly preparing its business and accounting majors well for their future careers working at suburban office parks across America.

Schools all over New England from D3 to D1 winning big games in front of full houses and HC chugs along with dismal seasons after seasons, and virtually zero interest outside of the aging denizens of this forum. Swell...

Impressive fight from Cornell in narrow loss to Princeton in the Ivy semis, 77-73 - the Big Red gave up 3 Princeton offensive rebounds in the last minute with the score tied at 73 The Tigers have quite a bball program between their men and women (ranked 24th)
