How many mass exoduses/exodii is a coach allowed especially at a college like HC which among other things prides itself on a high retention rate of students. As many as he can fit in the first four years of a five year contract. No more long term guaranteed contracts to unproven career assistants please. HC is already an outlier as we lie at the very outside of the norm in RPI, so why do we have to be smack in the middle of the norm in handing out guaranteed contracts? Let the next coach get an opportunity on an "earn it" contract with no guarantees, just a great opportunity.

Where is the love and appreciation for all that HC offers. Had a b-ball scholarship student - athlete roommate. Offered by Michigan, Dartmouth & others. He chose HC. He loved HC. He stayed despite ups & downs. Today he is a retired successful attorney. Old & painfully inane, I do not understand the current college landscape. Back to the Masters.

You mean the band and 5 students that now regularly attend games? The HC student body doesn't even follow our flagship sport anymore. Doesn't help that the school forced them to get vaccinated, boosted, tested regularly for COVID 19, and still told them they couldn't attend home games for a month after coming back from break. You stole my thunder. The students don’t show up to support their fellow students never mind an ex-HC student. As an aside, when I picked my 2 pint glasses for season ticket holders, I was asked my name. I was tempted to ask the young lady who was looking for my name on the list of season ticket holders, “How many names are on that list” but my guess that is classified information. my use of the phrase warm greeting was sarcastic. Normally I would expect a former player returning in an opposing uniform to get a ton of abuse. As I posed the question, would any students care enough. I think it unlikely.

Can't remember which player, which team or which league; but someone remarked once that it wouldn't waste much time if, rather than do the standard intros; all the starters went up in the stands and shook hands with the spectators!

Well, if the first was imposed on him in an attempt to upgrade the program, I would say one. Any improvement the team made with the near total makeover probably would have occurred with complete stability and orderly recruiting classes. Couldn't have been much worse, possibly better. If anything was imposed, that bright idea backfired.

Your roommate didn't play for Brett Nelson. There is a football portal also, you don't see a mass exodus from Coach Chesney's team. I've heard from a number of sources that Nelson has lost the team, other coaches. All of these kids in the portal are his kids. Players don't like him and don't want to play for him. 2022/23 season will be a disaster with BN around.

I would have smashed through a wall for my coach, Joe Sullivan. I was lousy but I tried my best. Unfortunately I was knocked unconscious a number of times. Under MD's orders I had to quite!. 60 + years later I feel I let down my teammates and my coach. I can see his eyes to this day. You are a successful footballer who I cheered on. Why don't some HC's b-ballers feel this intense, locker room, tightness, ties to coach and teammates? And, HC, too? You provided the answer. BN has not bonded wit his players. With Respect & Peace. Hopefully our new AD is sitting down with our departing men's players, one on one, to get a feel for what is going on. Eleven scholarship players moving on from HC in a little over two years is totally unacceptable and a situation that is crying for attention.

I can accept Luc as a sign of the times. With the others, I hear Mick Jagger belting out Satisfaction.

Mild nitpick that makes it worse, but we're up to 12 not counting Butler, Faw, and Townsel

I feel for Gates. His five year plan was quite reasonable before the Covid extra year of eligibility and the NCAA waiver of the sit out year for transfers. He will be walking with a bachelors in thirteen months while many of his contemporaries will be walking with a masters.
Based upon his work ethic on the court, he is just as hard working a student as his peers of his talent level who started college at the same time.
Timing is everything. I bet he's resolved the issue in his mind and will enjoy his super senior season at Holy Cross no matter who his teammates and coaches are. Being able to follow the career of guys like Butler and Gates who give every ounce of what they have for Holy Cross basketball has been a treat.

I seriously doubt that Gates will enjoy another disastrous season with a disgruntled coach on his way out and unhappy teammates, some or many of whom will transfer. He will appreciate his degree

Why would any on count graduates??? I believe all graduates actually graduate and then leave. I would never count the grads. Technically speaking there have been 15 scholarship players enter the portal since Coach Nelson arrived. I have been calling that number 12 since I don't think the guys that graduated should be lumped in with the others, but I keep throwing out that disclaimer to be precise in my terminology.
